Sounds Like
Progressive Southern Gospel with influences of bluegrass, jazz, and contemporary.
Judah’s Lion is a Christian band with a very unique sound. Much of the material performed by the band is original pieces written and/or arranged by the members. Each member has come from various musical backgrounds and recently merged to make music together for the Lord. The music combines influences of bluegrass, rock, southern gospel, contemporary Christian, and heavy metal. It is difficult to put a cut–and-dry label on the music of Judah’s Lion. However, the most accurate description the band could come up with is “Progressive Southern Gospel”.
The Ministry of Judah’s Lion started in 2004 when the group members sought to combine their talent and musical abilities together in their work for the Lord. After about a year of writing and rehearsing, the group had their first debut performance. This took place at Otsego Bible Chapel in Mullens, WV. They were blessed to know that many hearts and souls were touched that night. This strengthened the group’s ambition even greater, inspiring them to continue on. Since then they have played at several other churches, coffee houses, theatres, and other venues in effort to share their faith and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Reed Green, father/elder of the group, is the spiritual leader of the group and most often takes the role of the lead singer in the band. Reed began singing at a very young age and has developed into a powerful lead and tenor singer. Reed has preached and ministered the Gospel for over 20 years and has written and co-written many inspiring songs. Whether Reed is singing, writing or preaching, his words are always sincere, from the heart and founded on the Word of God.
Matthew Stewart, a prominent figure of the band, sings lead and harmony vocals, and has recently brought his talent of saxophone playing to the music. Matthew was raised in a musical family, singing with his mother, sisters and other church family for most of his life. He has developed into a remarkable baritone singer as well as a lead singer. Matthew contributes in many ways to the band in addition to his vocal work. He prepares materials for events, organizes band materials and always supports and encourages each individual in the band.
Charlie Clark has been playing the bass guitar for about 4 years and has become an exceptional musician in this short amount of time. Charlie is also an excellent tenor singer and has recently been contributing to the group’s harmony. Charlie is not only a musician, but an evangelist and devoted husband. He has been preaching for about 8 years now at many different churches and he always takes advantage of opportunities during performances to edify in the things of the Lord.
David Green has been blessed with a gift from God to play the drums with such enthusiasm, intensity, tastefulness, and with a heart to serve God. He has been playing the drums for over 10 years and before then, as a child, he would build his own drums out of home appliances or whatever he could get his hands on. It has always been obvious that David was born with a desire to make rhythm. David has been involved in many types of music in his life and after giving his heart to the Lord, he has solely put his musical efforts toward the work of Christ.
Stephen Sadzewicz has played music for about 15 years, starting first with guitar, dabbling with many other instruments, and finally settling into the group to primarily play keyboard and sing. Stephen is such a natural musician, always coming up with new ideas for the band and contributing his unique style of piano playing to the group. Stephen also writes many songs for the band and sings both lead and harmony vocals.
Brandon Green started playing banjo, as his first instrument, about 10 years ago after great inspiration from his grandfather. Brandon’s foundation of music comes from his experience in and love of gospel and bluegrass music. Brandon recently graduated from Concord University where he majored in music & business, which exposed him to many other types of music. This exposure has been a great influence on his style of playing and in his arranging of the music. Brandon also plays dobro, acoustic guitar, sings lead and harmony vocals, and greatly contributes to the songwriting in the band.
