(Even though the Book of Judith is not part of the official Jewish religious canon, its narrative is associated by many within Orthodox Judaism who place it in the Hellenistic period when Judea battled the Seleucid monarchs. It is regarded as a story related to the events surrounding the military struggle of that time and is believed to be a true reference to the background events leading up to the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah. CAMEROON "is Africa in miniature" with over 200 ethnic groups co-existing peacefully.

The country is shaped like a triangle and borders Nigeria (and the Atlantic Ocean) to the west, Chad and the Central African Republic in the east, and the Congo, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea in the south.

Situated in an inter-tropical zone, Cameroon consists of dense forests, vast savannas and coastal plains. There are a series of volcanic mountains and among them is Mt Cameroun, which is 4,100m (13,000 ft).

In 1472, Portuguese fishermen sailed up to the Wouri Lake. Astonished by the abundance of giant shrimps, they decided to call the region "Rio dos Camaroes" (meaning River of Shrimps in Portuguese) hence the name Cameroon.

Ever since the Portuguese set foot in CAMEROON, several other countries tried to claim it as theirs.

Today, Cameroon is an INDEPENDENT REPUBLIC.
