Not only did I grow up listening to and laughing at the brilliant George Carlin, but I also had the distinct pleasure of opening for him during the entire summer of 1987, when I was just breaking through in comedy.
After our show in New York City he was the first to call and congratulate me on the positive review my HBO special had just received. Can you imagine receiving accolades from the comedy legend, George Carlin? I will never forget that, nor this comic genius who so profoundly influenced me and every comic working today.
The world has lost the Picasso of modern stand-up comedy, George Carlin.

10 of 28MoreLOVE THE NEW HEADSHOT YOU LOK SO YOUNG !
I thought I'd posted here, but sadly see not...... I felt the loss in the family so much and was impressed at the media coverage of the greatest ever.
I actually saw that tour, which is what converted me to "Judyism". That night I swore between you and him I were gonna put me in the hospital because my face and sides hurt so much from laughter. He was a comedic genious and will be greatly missed. Thank you for sharing your experience with us and for continuing to make us laugh. That is a gift very few can give.

Yes, George Carlin, is a great lost to comedy, but Thank God we have a special commediene in Judy Tenuta.............we love you, hang in there, you have a lot of fans that think alot of you.....................

If there IS a heaven, I can just imagine George and Lenny Bruce doing a show, side by side. That would be something to see!
I met George only once, after a show in Detroit oh, so many years ago. He was exhausted, yet so friendly and kind to this young fan. I made a comment that actually made him laugh... the idea that I could make George Carlin laugh is one of my happiest memories. I miss him already.
I think it was Red Skelton who once said "The graveyard is full of people we can't live without," and that may be true, but a world without George Carlin will be a sadder one, nonetheless.
Thank you for your tribute, Judy. Always remember that you, too, are a comic genius.

What a touching tribute and send off to one of America's best comic genii.
As you lovingly say, he was a giver. Not a taker. I JUST found out after I got out of work, and the world is saddened by his passing. he broke through cultural and social stereotypes as you have broken through the sexual and social stereotypes. Please keep him in mind when you show us all that we, the love goddesses, the love slaves, the givers, etc etc, all, that we are all trying to beat the takers, and you BOTH have showed us how to do it in our own day to day lives. To be who you want to be, always, and be the best we can be at it, no matter what the "Taker pigs" say. A picture is worth a thousand words, but you BOTH have a million words to say the things that need to be said.

OMG! I cannot even imagine working with him, as you did - having the privilege of opening for him! How crazy was it working with him? And how amazing it was of him to phone you and compliment you - now thats a great guy and fellow comic!
I loved his humor! His rants just rolled off his tongue ..... yet they made so much sense while at the same time being SO clever and funny! The man was a comic genius! I loved that he said what he wanted and he didn't give a crap - thats the ultimate high, isn't it? And even though he cursed like crazy sometimes, he had all the FUNNY to back it up, unlike too many new comics that just curse and don't have any clever funny ... they just fo for the shock value. Too bad they didn't go the great School of George!
God Bless you George! I'm sure he's shaking up wherever he is now!
Thank you Judy, for allowing us to comment and honor his talent and life.
Hugs,
Anne (CT COMIC + "Roseanne Barr" Impersonator)
You said it, Judy. I'm gutted. I, too, grew up listening to the records and saw him live a few times. I even did a high school speech contest presentation based on his work...(it went over like a fart in church, but I thought it was hilarious!). George's way of cutting through the bullshit by pointing out the flaws in logic and the way he studied the language has informed every part of my being. His most recent HBO special helped prepare us for his death by examining how he dealt with the deaths of others. I don't think I'll be able to delete him from my mental address book any time soon, though.
He is, and will continue to be missed.
p.s.- I've always liked your work as well!
p.p.s- You look damn good for 19! :)=
