Juez is a breakbeat-klezmer-jazz band of Orthodox kids from D.C., Chicago and New York. The four-member ensemble's influences range from Yemenite niggunim to hip-hip; from John Zorn to DJ Shadow. Onstage, they resemble a punk band, with manic solos, frenzied interplay, audience call-and-responses and stage-diving. Juez is totally sweet!
Juez has performed with such artists as Black Ox Arkestar, Frank London, Satlah, Matisyahu, Aloha, 302 Acid, Daniel Carter, Golem, and Gutbucket at Mercury Lounge, The Black Cat, the Hillel International, Art-O-Matic, Lions Den, the Jewish Folk Arts Festival, University of Maryland, Har vard, and The Knitting Factory just to name a few.
Juez was nominated as "Best New Klezmer Band" at the first annual Jewish Music Awards. WHAT!

Hey Erez! The Shemspeeed concert in Jerusalem was awesome! Last week I interviewed Maaryasha. It's up on the blog if you want to listen. Our intern here was flipping through yoru site and lo and behold, her favorite band was some group called Juez. So we had to play it on the show. She didn't even know the leader of the band is the founder of Shemspeed. OK, keep rocking out for us.
