we are under attack as poor, working class students of color; forced to balance the budget cut crisis on our backs, as we watch our teachers, classes and programs unfairly get eliminated.
in defense of our EMPOWERING College of Ethnic Studies SFSU and for Equitable Education statewide; (including our k-12 public schools, community colleges and public universities) now is the time to stand up and take action!
If not us, who? If not now, when?
DEMAND ETHNIC STUDIES! NO BUDGET CUTS TO EDUCATION, INSTEAD CUT THE MILITARY AND PRISON SPENDING BUDGETS!!!!!
We need your support with gathering signatures to get this initiative, the College Affordability Act of 2008, on the California Statewide November ballot, this fall.
our deadline to collect 15,000 signatures locally is April 17, 2008.
This initiative would freeze/stop all the public universities (both UC/CSU) student tuition fees for a five year period; the end result would not allow the tuition fees to increase over the rate of inflation. It would also tax millionaires by 1 percent to create revenue for education: 60% would go toward public universities 40% would go toward kindergarten thru community colleges. its not perfect, but its attainable.
however, as a student movement we must make stronger demands to uphold the California Master Plan, which states that our university education was intended to be free!!!!
To check out our volunteer schedule online visit: my.calendars.net/sftrn
Please email us as soon as possible to start petitioning in your classrooms, neighborhoods, anywhere California registered voters reside or can sign up to register to vote. we will meet with you and set you up with a clipboard and stack of petitions. thank you so much for all your support!
