Influences
Bands that inspire us:
This isn't necessarily a list of bands that inspire us but more like a list of bands we fully appreciate, although inspiration does come from some of them...............The Format, Weezer, Zepelin, Veruca Salt, Jimmy Eat World, Seven-Year Bitch, The Libertines, The Shins, The Zombies, The Beatles, The Ramones, The Constantines, The Gay Blades, The Hives, Cake, David Bowie, Hole, Nine inch Nails, Bob Marley, MarsVolta, The Stones, Snoop dogg, Queen, Johnny Cash, Bright Eyes, really old Blink 182, Billy Idol, The Clash, The Dead Milkmen,Ben Kweller, The Talking Heads, The Cure, Etta James, Blindmelon, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, The Cars, Cowboy Junkies, Mazzy Star, Elliot Smith, Hot Hot Heat, James, Spacehog, PJ Harvey, Romeo Void, The Spill Canvas, THE ITCH, The Pixies,The Cars, Nirvana, Soundgarden, pretty much the entire 80's hair metal genre, and the list goes on
Sounds Like
If the Clash and the Go-go's had a baby, it might sound like Juicy Newt, so we have been told. People who haven't heard us are constantly asking us to compare ourselves to other bands, and are disbelieving when we tell them we can't. Once they have heard it they aren't too quick to put a label on our sound either. Rarely has ever told us that we sound like another band.
Who We Are
Juicy Newt is an entirely female rock trio from Tempe, Arizona. The band was born in 2003 in the midst of boredom and aspirations of world domination through rock and roll. Not the evil, oppressive, tyrannical type of domination; more the color-coordinated, adored-by-the-masses, cheap-booze-for-all, free-lovin’ kind of domination.
While Annamarie Sanchez (Guitar/Lead Vocals), Brenda Perkins (Bass/Vocals) and Sarah Bingham (Drums) were all musically trained in other realms and great lovers of all music not one of them had previous experience with their chosen instrument for this particular project. Undaunted, they proceeded to rock out with a “just do whatever sounds cool” philosophy. From day one they were making their own music… well, it was actually just noise at first but it quickly evolved in to a collection of aurally pleasing mosaics of sound.
It took the better part of a year for the ladies to put together a sufficient number of happy, danceable, sing along type ditties about having one’s heart ripped out and repeatedly stomped on to comprise a set worthy of an audience. The first show at the legendary Mason Jar in phoenix cemented the Newt in the consciousness of the phoenix scene. Juicy Newt has been playing all over the valley and the southwest ever since.
Have a listen. You might dig it. The sooner everyone’s on board, the sooner that whole “cheap booze for all” thing will come to fruition.
We Believe
We are about music. We don't have an image to sell. Playing music is what we want to do. We have never worked so hard for anything until now.
