Juicy the Emissary is a producer of a rare breed, beginning his musical education at a young age with classical guitar in the music-mecca of Denton, Texas; and by middle school, he was studying under UNT jazz faculty. His restless fascination with composing kept him on a quest for sounds, honing his craft with 4-tracks, keyboards, drum machines, guitar, bass, voice, turntables, samplers, and soon, the Emissary was born.
After high school, he started playing house parties with a group of emcees in Denton who would later come to be known as Vortexas. With the transition from the houses to bars and clubs, Vortexas pioneered a vibrant and unique hip hop scene in their hometown, cited in numerous publications including the New York Times. While doing shows all around the US, Juicy and Vortexas still maintain a heavy presence in the north Texas scene, performing with acts from all genres and regions, including Akil of Jurassic 5, Hip Hop Klan, DJ Logic, Planet Asia, Mr. Dibbs, and Opio of Hieroglyphics as well as a slew of punk and indie bands on the Vans Warped Tour.
But the Emissary spends most of his time in the studio – and it shows. His 2007 release, The New World Renaissance Mixtape 1, is touted for its distinct character and cohesiveness. Juicy is noted by fans and critics alike as not only producing well-rounded and directed works with intricate arrangements, but also having the utmost variety in sample choices, a testament to his profound intimacy with recordings of all kinds. Having a rich, diverse musical background and nearly a decade of experience behind the boards, Juicy offers a fresh, sophisticated perspective on hip hop production that transcends borders of genres and sub-cultures.
It is for this reason that his resume is not limited to rappers and DJs. In fact, Juicy collaborates with artists of all forms, having worked with video production companies like Reel Roots Productions, Believe Media, and Secret History, producing music for films, bumpers, and commercials. Other collaborative efforts include work with dance companies like Kinetic Arts Collective and the Dance Departments of UNT and TWU, who have performed to The Emissary’s productions in concerts and festivals as far away as Utah, New York, and Jamaica.
