Influences
Lots! In no particular order: Jeff Buckley, Killers, Muse, Smashing Pumpkins, Goldfrapp, Bloc Party, Arcade Fire, Maximo Park, Panic! At the Disco, MGMT, Editors, The Music, We Are Scientists, Band of Horses, the Zutons, Rufus Wainwright, The Bravery, Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, White Zombie........oh and that cute little "don't let me go" tune off the Citroen advert ;-P (and strangely at the moment, listening to 3 bands I *never* thought I'd like - Scissor Sisters, Coldplay and Snow Patrol...)
Sounds Like
My own material has been compared to Joni Mitchell, Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, KT Tunstall, Led Zeppelin and The Music. Go figure!!
My vocal sound has been compared to Chrissie Hynde, KT Tunstall, Gwen Stefani and PJ Harvey.. I just think I sound like me! But that wouldn't be much of a description! Why not have a listen to some pre-mixes from my debut album and you can judge for yourself! :-)
My songs come straight from the heart, the flesh, the blood. Sorry if you don’t think that’s clever, that’s just how it is - I’m afraid there is nothing I can do to change it.
I’m not saying that great music isn’t an intricate language full of subtle complexities - but if you prefer music that’s more clever than it is sincere, do yourself a favour and switch channels now. You won’t find any jazz here :P
My debut album ’spit out the pips’ is now available - £10 + P&P from Cookie’s Records or direct from me, just drop me a message :). It’s a bit of a rocker... so hold on to your red heels! Having said that, it’s also interspersed with some more contemplative numbers from piano and hammered dulcimer to string quartet - so be prepared for a bit of diversity too, it’s not all stomp and clap. :)
Although most of the songs on my debut album came into existence with the help of my beloved Fender thinline guitar, my piano has been my closest friend since the age of 5. It knows all my secrets. As I also play hammered dulcimer and percussion, you will likely see me do a bit of everything at gigs depending on my mood - well, a gal’s just got to do a bit of everything, hasn’t she? ;-)
