   About Julian Donkey-Boy
September 2004 - Present.

Julian Donkey-Boy are a 3 piece lo-fi indie-pop guitar group from North Manchester.

After releasing a string of lo-fi EPs (all excellent) on CDR, their debut single “It All Means Nothing To Me” (Kum Ba Yah Records) is JD-B's first venture into a 'proper' studio with an inherent capitalist agenda. However, so true are the songs of JDB that any trace of the free market is rendered inaudible amidst the swirling infinity of 100% solid gold hits. (KBY's words)

The single is available for download by clicking here: 7digitalindiestore.com or below on the player. The seven inch vinyl is available at the following shops:

Piccadilly Records.com (Manchester)

Jumbo Records.co.uk (Leeds)

Action Records.co.uk (Preston)

King Bee Records.co.uk (Chorlton)

Or you could just send us a message on here if you'd like to buy straight from us.

Often compared to a mix of things such as Hefner, Pavement, Daniel Johnston and Elliot Smith, other people have probably put it best:

"At some point during your life you'll have known a donkey boy - the Napoleon Dynamite kid sat at the front of physics in school. But our Jools is different. All that scribbling of what we thought were simply equations, were actually calculations to create the most endearing bedroom guitar music any boy in Woody Allen specs could ever dream of." THE FLY

"Brilliant, lo-fi singer-songwriter Julian Donkey-Boy takes his favourite parts of Daniel Johnston, Pavement, Lou Reed and Weezer, to make some of the most heartbreakingly honest music around." DROWNED in SOUND

"There's a wonderful sense of self-deprecation to Julian Donkey-Boy, from the name to the shoe-shuffle rhythms. With the heart of a wandering cowboy and the soul of a badly drawn boy, the gentle confidence that breathes through the songs and the delightfully painted lyrics chase into dreams and reinforce the bittersweet nature of life." BBC MANCHESTER

"Sincere, precocious and moving, this is essential. MMMM 1/2" MANCHESTERMUSIC.co.uk

After the awesome success of our January Big Saturday Bash we are back this weekend at Dry Bar (9th Feb) for a pop party. We are marking the occassion with the release of Onions new single. As usual there is 2 rooms of bands, we have special guest d.j's, a compere from Channel M, local artwork is been exhibited upstairs and we have loads of drink offers on with licence till late.

Doors are at 8pm till 3am and entry is a bargain £5.

The gig features-

UPSTAIRS

ONIONS

"Think Super Furry Animals but only if they were playing with firecrackers down their pants"- Manchester Evening News

TWILIGHT ROBIN

Proper chart music with big keyboard wooshes and captivating vocal lines perhaps reminiscent of Flaming Lips.

TOY DE TROP

Filthy garagey rock n roll with more sex than your local porn shop. See P J Harvey, Pixies, The Banshees for reference.

We also have a very special guest opening who we cant name due to 21day rule stipulations of other inferior nights. Lets just say his Eccentric performance shouldn't be missed! (If anyone wants to know e.mail me)

DOWNSTAIRS

THE 66

A mixture of old shool Madchester and some proper rock moves. Already played on XFM and guranteed Saturday night fun.

COSTELLO

Suited and booted return to classic pop song writing a la Ray Davies with big sing along choruses.

SOUND MARSHALLS

More classic Madchester grooves mixed with chiming guitar lines not a million miles from Purressence. One of Manchester hidden treasures.

Special Guests

Go to www.myspace.com/beatpromotions and checkout my top friends if you want to go and listen to the bands. Also click on my profile pic if you want to see a cool poster.

See you all there!

2 contrasting rooms of glorious music featuring 8 bands I reckon are going to do really well for themselves this year. Upstairs is headlined by The Consolations who could well do a Twisted Wheel this year. Downstairs our post-rock extravaganza is headlined by the mighty Vessels who have just got back from recording in America and are so good it should be illegal.

All nights have an array of drink offers if you bring NUS/Student cards. Happy days. Come along and get involved!

Cheers

Hey

My band Boycott are playing at Dry Bar this Sunday, the 16th, as part of the Hide and Seek Festival. We will be on upstairs at 7pm, I believe the action kicks off around 3. We will be bringing the rock forth.
Would be lovley to see you, even if its just to heckle. The more people we pull the less chance there is that we will be blathered when we play. Please support the cause!

Dec 4 2007 8:20 PM

sick of the good times? If you are then down Disco has an alternative. Our first night is at henry boons on the 18th december featuring the chapman family and 3 djs playing the best melancholy music there is. You wont hear the kooks or the kaiser chiefs but you will hear in one set at least blackflower rotary ten and other indie delights yet to brace the pages of the nme. Also some astounding soul belters sam cook martha redeves ken booth. Stick two fingers up to the good times and join le revolution down Disco giving music back.

dont let the nme run your listening plesure fight back with down disco!

if you like what you hear tell us

we love you all
