  • Heroes

A fine David Bowie album, though I would prefer Low myself. Actually, samy is my hero. No, really. I wish I could write code like that. (But the lowercase s in "samy" does irritate me a bit. Maybe that comes from being in the middle of proof-reading an entire novel.)

About me:

I was born in London. I grew up in Ireland. I live in Berlin. And I write novels.

In 2007, I won the biggest prize in the world for a single short story.

My first novel, Juno & Juliet.., was published in 2001. It stars identical twin sisters in their first year away from home, and is about Life! Love! Literature! My second one, Jude: Level 1.., stars an orphan with two penises, and is about everything else. It's a rather unusual novel, and was published in July 2007. The Sunday Tribune named it as one of their Books of the Year.

I also, in my youth, wrote the words (and sang) on four albums by the underground Galway group, Toasted Heretic. We played London, Paris and New York (among other places), and had a top ten hit in Ireland with the single "Galway and Los Angeles" (a song about not kissing Sinead O'Connor).

Here's a link, where you can listen to some songs for free:
album cover
If you do buy, or own, any Toasted Heretic albums, feel free to copy them for your poorer friends (but make the rich ones buy them).

If you'd like to read my poetry, song lyrics, and journal, I have a website. There are also photographs by (and of) me (including topless shots, oh yes...) There are also links to free pieces of the new novel, and to some of the more interesting interviews I've done. God spare you the less interesting.

You can contact me by sending me a myspace message, or through www.juliangough.com ..>Amazon.co.uk Widgets..>

Who I'd like to meet:

Met them. And... well, don't mind the newspapers, they have to sell copies.

I'm moving to Wales in August. My cousin is moving to Berlin in September. I have an exchange-student-friend that is going back to wherever-in-East-Germany in June.

There will be a Germany trip.

My friend Rach and I walked to the movies (almost as long a walk roundtrip as the movie was, sweet exercise!) and then stopped at The Claddagh, an Irish-style pub roundabout. We toasted to you and your reading!

    You!

I would tell you to quit writing and talk to me but that's borderline blasphemous.

P.S. Curious thing about scarves. =p

P.P.S. Only just now read the lyrics to 'Charm&Arrogance' and have officially stated that you're my favorite person. Again.

I'm glad not to be THAT famous and popular and good-looking like you... otherwise I had to deal with all those stupid comments too. Is that the price for being a decorated writer? Brrrr...

    I miss my mentor.

My boyfriend got me Jude: Level 1 for Christmas. As we say here in the states, "Holla!" or "Challah!" if we're Jewish.

Hey all you guys and gals, thanks for all the nice stuff. Nicole Audrey, no problem, I shall delete those semispammy comments that snuck in flying your flag. Steve, I blush. Niki, Stacey, Liz, hi hi hi... Cane 141/Mike/Roisín, it's a sweeeeet album, so lovely to hear Commander King reminiscing, with his parrots in the background (or are they parakeets?)

I've been away a lot, Ireland, UK, France, so my cybergarden is neglected, I know I owe some of you emails/massages/money/my life... kisses will have to hold you all, X X X X X X X X
