Top notch electro-pop production, stellar singing, and
heavenly-minded lyrics are the focal points on this sparkling mini
album. Not just raise-your-hands feel-goodery, "Little Gold Plaque"
actually takes to task showboats in the sanctuary, while tickling the
ears with skronking synth bass and an insistent drum loop. Fans of
Imogen Heap will enjoy the radio friendly electronic pop/rock sonic
textures and vibrant stereo mix, while church-goers will appreciate
Zobrist's sincerity and biblically-rooted lyrics. The title track,
"The Tree" is an album highlight, with its strings and slightly
melancholy-yet-hopeful melody. With plenty of aural treats and lyrical meat, there's a lot to love on this album.

Even at four years old, singer/songwriter Julianna Zobrist knew she was destined to share her God-given gift and love of music. That’s when she called 911 to sing “Jesus Loves Me” because her five brothers and sisters didn’t seem too interested in being an audience. “I decided to call the one number I knew and see if they wanted to listen,” recalls Julianna.
Twenty years later, the Christian alternative musician’s talent continues to grow from that same passion. Even though captive audiences are now easier to find, the creation of Julianna’s debut album, “The Tree” was as much about the process as the final result. “This has been such a fun journey and I believe that my music truly reflects the process of putting my priorities where God has intended for them,” shares Julianna.
As the daughter of a pastor in Iowa City, Julianna built an early foundation by playing piano and writing poetry. After receiving classical training as a child, Julianna further developed her musical talent at Belmont University in Nashville, TN with a degree in Commercial Voice. While in Nashville, Julianna’s knowledge of the industry grew while working as a personal assistant to a Christian artist and taking various other positions in artist, project and road management.
With her extensive music background, solid faith, marriage to Tampa Rays baseball player Ben Zobrist, and recent birth of son, Zion, Julianna’s songwriting is not short on material. Her debut album, “The Tree,” reflects the depth of her life experiences with songs “inspired by sermons or books I have read and how they apply to my daily life,” says Julianna.
The energy-charged vocals and beat, along with the elaborate production of “The Tree” shows Zobrist’s personality and talent while her insight is painted by the vulnerability and intensity of the lyrics. Taking influences from Plumb, Imogen Heap and childhood favorites like The Beach Boys and Gloria Estefan, the mixture of energy and intricacy defines “The Tree.”
The title track, which breathes imagery of God’s sacrifice, speaks to the fact that, “we are deserving of the wrath of the Almighty God, and He out of His mere good pleasure, delivered us from the way of thinking that our own ‘goodness’ could justify us before Him,” says Julianna.
On the first track titled “The Joy of my Rest,” Julianna shows who she desires to become. She claims, “My goal is to live with eternity stamped upon my eyelids, so that I look at life through the eyes of heaven. And when my focus becomes preparing for eternity, and accomplishing the work I have been set here to do, I can rest in the joy of this task.”
In "Little Gold Plaque," the story came from reflecting on the donation labels on the backs of the church pews. “I was struck with the truth that my own heart is so often motivated by the recognition I long to receive, rather than being motivated purely by the Glory of God. This desire of self-glorification is so empty when obtained, and yet my flesh continues to pursue it,” Julianna shares.
One review says fans will enjoy, “the radio friendly electronic pop/rock sonic textures and vibrant stereo mix, while church-goers will appreciate Zobrist's sincerity and biblically-rooted lyrics.” Another review writes, “the music is heartfelt, heavily produced and makes great use of ear-catching tones and noises.”
