The soundtrack of all of Julie B's loud, overdriven misery and sweet symphonic joy and the small quiet things that are the balance in the middle that are the best....as interpreted by musicians of variable sanity, unwavering talent and visionary creativity.
Julie B's songs range from simple heartpouring driplets to proggy mathy hard tantrums and many moods in between. Her music always has a twist of the quirky but still manages to be hooky. Her lyrics, described by the press as "Dada-esque", are paintings of unfocused events but of very pointed emotions and references to the human condition. The word "baby" does not appear in any song. She received much critical acclaim and a regional following with her previous band, True Heart Susie. Billboard magazine described Julie's music as "memorable melodies with rock energy" and "unique musical sensibility".
The Julie B Well is a culmination of Julie's songs which is forward thinking while including the past. Julie B has the great fortune to work with the best musicians around for this project starting with the musically wide Kramer Kelling on bass. Kelling plays in a variety of prolific regional bands including Dub District and his own project, Toad King. Sean Gill, solid yet innovative, joins the group on guitar. He also lends his mastery of the instrument to his own band, Strange Land. The young and creative Paul Newlin hits the kit with flair and finesse. Finally, we are thrilled to be joined by Angie Schmidt on the cello. Her other band, Far Corner is amazing and we are thrilled to be working with her.
Julie B is also a composer of award-winning serious modern classical music for various chamber groups and electronics. Julie B teaches voice, piano, songwriting, music theory, and composition at The Milwaukee Area Technical College and Music Appreciation at Lakeland College.
