Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, Bob Dylan, Ella Fitzgerald, Henryk Gorecki, Jeff Buckley, Bill Frissell, Ken Vandermark and Friends, Shannon Worrell, Nanci Griffeth, Janis Ian, and countless others. I have played a variety of genres of music, so it's hard to simply state my influences so that they will make sense with the praise and worship music I'm currently writing. Nevertheless, these are people I have listened to a lot.
Born in Atlanta Georgia in 1973, Julie Powell Caldwell has devoted that last ten years of her life to the pursuit of music. A composer, singer, songwriter, guitarist, pianist, and conductor, Caldwell discovered an unexpected talent for music while attending Washington & Lee University and realized she had found her calling. As is often the case, her journey has not been direct, and the Lord has used Caldwell's wide experiences as a musician to prepare her for her current position as Worship Leader at Athens First United Methodist Church. It is here that Caldwell finally foundthe place of intersection between her faith and her talent. Her goal is best summarized in the chorus of a worship song she wrote:
I want to pour me out, so You can fill me up
I want to be a vessel for Your purpose Lord
I want to lay me down, so You can raise me up
A new creation in Your perfect love
