Biography

Blending elements of Rock, Soul, and Americana, Julie the Band’s new EP, “Wild As the Sky”, takes the listener on a heartfelt road trip rich in textures and lyrical pictures inspired by the band’s recent tours and time on the road. With influences of great American songwriters like John Prine, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Ryan Adams, the band’s sophomore release is a testament to their continued willingness to evolve and their depth across vast musical territory.

High school in Los Angeles brought singer songwriter Nathan Blumenfeld-James and lead guitar player Dustin Bath together where they shared a love for music and began an alliance that has lasted a over a decade. Their musical partnership has had several incarnations and in 2009, they added Jon Spence and Nick Adams to the musical mix, which has shaped the sound that is now Julie the Band.

“Wild as the Sky” emerged from the band following their instincts and the excitement of recording in their studio in Venice, CA. Inspired by experiences on the road and the American landscape James was compelled to bring to life the imagery and honesty of the heartland of America. A true collaboration of the JTB members, the EP reflects their intention to keep it raw and real. “It was important to us when recording to capture the live sound in the room so you can feel like you are there with us A refreshing sonic move, “Wild as the Sky” still remains true to JTB’s musical personality and keeps the wit and pop sensibility they expressed so well in their last release from Baby Bird Records, “An Act of Communication” alive. Sprinkled tastefully with slide guitar and banjo and infused with humor and a contemporary feel, the EP leaves open space for the listener to relax and enjoy the ride.
