On the tracks you can hear, the very lovely and supremely talented musicians are Ben Barritt playing guitar and ..o is Jane Cockcroft. As Jane's just had her first baby, we are currently joined on stage by oboeist Lynne Sharp. She's amazing and can chat as much rubbish as me. Recently, I have also been beautifully accompanied on stage by Ben Labi and Andy Mitchell. My underwater photos are by Duncan Longden.
Influences
Life, love, objects, my surroundings, states of mind, states of grace, observation and occasionally protest.
Artists I like include:
Bjork
N.E.R.D.
Antony and the Johnsons
Outcast
Sigur Ros
Martina Topley Bird
Sense Of Sounds - Juliet Russell, Perri Alleyne-Hughes, Jennifer John & Saphena Aziz
And anyone who's into experimenting and pushing what they do forward. Classical wise, I love Debussy. Basically I like anything I find interesting and evocative whether it is something that makes you jump around the room with glee, opens your eyes to the world or takes you somewhere else.
Hello, I'm Juliet. I recorded these songs about a year ago, at Westpoint Studios in London, all live and basically as we do them on stage. I'm just embarking on developing them all musically and putting together an album with all the new songs I've written. The thought behind them is to create a set of modern torch songs, that have a strong melodic narrative and represent me in my world as it is right now or has recently been, with a bit of drama thrown in for good measure... (which is usually lurking in my life somewhere).
I usually write about subjects that are close to my heart. Lazy is a tribute to my bed, which is one of the most comfortable places on earth. Everything's Changed is set in a smoky bar and mentions the punks of birdland - starlings (www.iheartstarlings.com - doesn't exist, but it should) and Damn, You're Gorgeous is pretty self -explanatory.
I am lucky enough to have a career in music and I have worked with some amazing artists, most recently with GORILLAZ on MONKEY; JOURNEY TO THE WEST and with Imogen Heap, Damon Albarn and David Coulter at the Barbican. I am currently working with AQUALISE as a guest vocalist (see WPPK track above) and also appear on albums with the Transit Kings and Belka and Strelka. I have also worked with M.I.A, Ray Lamontagne, Brian Eno, Alex Paterson (The Orb and Transit Kings), Jimmy Cauty (KLF), Dominic Miller (Sting's guitarist), The Aliens and Aadesh Shrivastava (Bollywood Composer)
I run my own music company, Sense of Sound (www.senseofsound.net - that does exist), which means I spend all my time working with music, which I love. The people I run it with are also amazing artists. Check out the lovely Jenny on www.myspace.com/jenniferjohn. Sense of Sound is a fabulously creative business which is dedicated to singing. We run courses, train individuals, create projects, run events and work with some amazing artists, including our very own Sense of Sound Choir. We are up for collaborating and experimenting so please get in touch if you have any inspiring ideas or just want to find out more about us.
Thank you for looking at my space and wishing you happiness, love and whatever you'd wish for yourself xx

The Kittiwakes - CD Launch - Clerkenwell 22nd June
Leigh-on-Sea 3-piece, The Kittiwakes, celebrate the release of their Midwich Records debut, ‘Lofoten Calling’, a collection of original folk songs written about the people, landscape, folklore and history of the Lofoten Islands above the Arctic Circle and influenced by the traditional music of Norway and the British Isles.
'The Kittiwakes craft timeless and magical acoustically dappled folk treats - gentle and alluring ostensibly Gaelic in sound texture and gorgeously flighty braided as they are by corteges of mandolins, accordions and violins.' [LOSING TODAY]
'The Kittiwakes (rissa tridactyla): delicious, intriguing and evocative music, beautifully played and sung by this talented trio. Recommended to twitchers and lovers of folk music alike' [LEIGH FOLK FESTIVAL]
