Born March 27, 1985, Julius Arguez is an R&B/Hip-hop singer, songwriter, and producer from Miami, FL.
Since childhood, Julius has had a profound appreciation of music. It all began with an early obsession for Disc Jockey equipment, and a love of the sound of bass. He would push the limits of his parent’s stereo systems to the point of breaking. Because of this, his father would constantly buy him new equipment to “experiment” with. Julius was always known around his elementary school as the guy who knew the name of any song you could hum, and the one who could dance to any music. He would also draw DJ sets during art class whenever it was allowed by the teacher. Artists such as Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, DJ Laz, DJ Uncle Al, Luther Campbell (Luke), Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, M.C. Hammer, Janet Jackson, 69 Boyz, Quad City DJ’s, K7, Johnny-O, Debby Deb, and similar artists had very strong musical influences on his childhood.
In middle school, Julius began taking formal music classes, as well as playing in the wind ensemble through the end of high school, where he became drum major of the marching band during his senior year. He also attended one of the top schools in the country for the performing arts, Coral Reef High School. In addition to all of the music he was involved with in school, he would always listen to music at home, preferring it to T.V. and the internet, as well as DJ parties on the side. During this point in time, music by Aaliyah, Jay-Z, Ludacris, Three 6 Mafia, Usher, Craig David, Busta Rhymes, Ja Rule, Missy Elliott, DMX, Sisqo, Big Pun, Christina Aguilera, and others helped influence his extreme interest in music.
It was around this time that Julius started becoming more and more intrigued with the sound of the human voice, particularly the voices of Brian McKnight and Mariah Carey, and always enjoyed listening to any live performance he could. He was also performing on the Saxophone extensively with various wind ensembles for school. As a result of the impact of music on his life, specifically Hip-Hop, R&B, and Pop, he decided that he wanted to dedicate his life to the music business. His new goal was to have the GREATEST impact on the music industry in all areas possible. He desired to do everything from discovering and promoting the most talented artists he could find, to writing, producing and performing his own music to the best of his ability.
After graduating high school, and being accepted to Florida State University’s world-renowned school of music, Julius continued his education of musical composition and theory, as well as his playing of the Saxophone. However, FSU’s commercial music program did not offer what he was looking for. The program was flailing and weak, so he decided to switch majors and search for another school with a better program. However, the extreme rarity of schools with good music production/business programs, coupled with tuitions upwards of $35,000 annually made the possibility of attending them very slim. This had very little impact on his concrete determination and incomparable passion for reaching his goal.
Julius knew he was now on his own with this idea, so he began singing as often as possible, and recording it with an inexpensive microphone in order to see what he sounded like. He would record, listen, critique, and re-record until he was satisfied with the progress. This is still something he does on a daily basis. Additionally, he began taking piano lessons, and started experimenting with composing his own instrumentals and recording vocals over them.
In 2005, Julius met a member of a hip-hop/rock band while DJ’ing a party. The band was named Subliminal Methods, and they needed a sound man for their upcoming live performances. It was a dream come true for Julius, who saw this as a great opportunity to hone his musical skills. Not only did he engineer the live sound for Subliminal Methods, he also became the lighting technician, keyboard player, DJ, and a back-up vocalist for the group. In addition, he coordinated all of the rehearsals, and gave pointers to the various members of the group on how they could improve their stage presence, sound, and audience reception. On top of all of this, he also began composing new music and producing demo recordings for Subliminal Methods. Unfortunately, the guitarist of the group was forced to move back home, and operations with the group ceased in late 2005. This new development stumped Julius’ plans of working towards a recording contract with Subliminal Methods, and he was compelled to devise a new plan.
In January of 2006, Julius composed, wrote, and recorded his first song as a solo R&B/Pop singer, titled “That Tingle.” Immediately after completing the song, he copyrighted it, and began extensive promotion on the popular social networking site, Myspace.com. To date, the song has helped his total plays on Myspace exceed 16,500 with almost 8,000 visits to his page.
The overwhelmingly positive response to “That Tingle” inspired Julius to make more music and work towards producing a radio-ready, hit song. He has since copyrighted more than 20 additional songs and beats. He also performed live for the first time as a solo act in front of an audience of 1,200+ in October, 2006 at Florida State University’s Ruby Diamond auditorium. The audience was simply amazed by the professionalism and stage presence of this first-time performer, and the sound of hundreds of howling women filled the auditorium within seconds of the beginning of the first song.
Everything Julius has experienced on his path to success has only increased his already incomparable drive, determination, and dedication to making it in the business. He is ready and willing to do whatever it takes to be part of the industry, and to be able to introduce his artistry to the world on the grandest scale imaginable.
