Jungal are three powerful young women who create their own brand of Australian-flavoured indie roots music blended with folk, soul and rock. Word has quickly been spreading of Jungal’s energetic live performance and catchy, positive songwriting, which comes to life through three harmonious voices. The Sister Connection The underlying tie that binds Leisha Jungalwalla (guitars, vocals), Jessie Jungalwalla (drums, vocals), and Victoria Beard (bass, vocals) together is the unbreakable sister connection, which can be seen and heard throughout their music and elevates during Jungal’s enjoyable and passionate live performance. Big sisters Leisha and Jessie began playing in bands together in their teens and quickly added adopted sister Victoria Beard’s sounds into the mix. In July 2010, Jungal released their debut album “This Crooked Track,” produced by Robyn Mai (John Butler Trio, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds) at Woodstock Studios in St. Kilda. The girls successfully launched the first single “Say It” in Melbourne, and took it on the road for a National Tour. The politically-charged song “Say It” received ample radio play on PBS, Triple RRR, and 3CR, among others, and Jungal fans literally stopped in their tracks to have a listen. Other national media features were published in Inpress, Scene Magazine, and a front cover spot on Southern Star Newspaper.“Jungal is an admirable example of an all-female indie roots group staying true to the genre that they love.” (Chris Chinchilla, Inpress) Playing to a capacity crowd at the Evelyn Hotel, wowed the crowd, before taking the show on the road to Canada in August of 2010, and then back to Australia to launch the album with a national tour in October. This Melbourne-based all-girl trio has a good sense of their direction and a strong determination to make their mark. Their musical flair is flaunted as each of their songs varies in sound and style, but all are underlaid with the organic roots of Jungal – 100% powerful, edgy, and female!
