From 1999 to 2003, the members of the Junkers wowed Wisconsin with stomping honkytonk music that, they hoped, blended cowpunk urgency and reverence for the great country heritage. All four founding Junkers were songwriters, and their lyrics touched on bedrock country themes like substance abuse and faithlessness, as well as cross-dressing, numismatics and Capital by Karl Marx (volume one only).
The Junkers released two full-length albums of original material: Hunker Down (2001) and Live Characters Nightly (2003).
