Droning in the desert. Electro elevator FX by Erasure, the Black Kids & Empire of the Sun. A side order of 1980s dark pop. Punk and acid rock. Sickness and relationships. Craic. An enema of cinema. Finish with a touch of heavy rockstar partying and you've got the ingredients to JUNKSTAR
ON OUR JUKEBOX
Vampire Weekend - Contra
Temper Trap - Conditions
New York Dolls - New York Dolls
Psychotronic invasion popsters JUNKSTAR have played alongside a range of acts including Supergrass, White Rose Movement, Kate Nash, Athlete, The Drums, Fight like Apes, The Holloways, and 80’s pop icon Wendy James. They mix the sonic sensibilities of their superheroes & synthesize them into a big brash sexy city swagger, all of their own. Forging their reputation on their edgy live performances, they pull off that precarious trick of delivering a masterclass of sleek hooks whilst providing you with a sound that resonates giddily, just like kissing a pretty girl. Or boy. Or animal.
The MAGAZINE EP was released on the 13th April 2009

THEY SAY Lynda Burke (NME)
Thundering beats and sweet melodic riffs. Junkstar are a class act destined for great things Alex Baker (Kerrang!)
Junkstar have a great trashy electro sound plus a hidden darker metal edge! Alexander Havering (Q magazine)
Junkstar’s music shakes and wriggles within a self-defined aesthetic that’s perfectly suited to tales of city life, reflective consciousness and the dirtiest of deadly sins Simon Williams (Club Fandango) Head down is a catchy and really likeable track - this band rocks - with wings! Ace (Skunk Anansie guitarist - DJ JUICE FM) Shiny, excited people with big ambitions to prove themselves with brilliant big songs and big personalities! Lisa Parker (Band Republic)
Junkstar simply force you to listen. This 5 piece band with '5 distinct personalities' come together to frame an explosive sound made up of superb musicianship and a striking frontman. Mark (Losingtoday.com review) Bluebottles purrs and prowls amid a swirling backdrop of buzzsaw hip shimmies, fizzing bass gridlocks and the kind of aurally amorphous adrenalin accelerating armoury that leaves you hooked, transfixed and literally panting in its hypnotic wake. Chris Hawkins (BBC 6Music)
Think full-on, catchy pop songs! There’s something a bit special about this north London five-piece. Thomas Radiovic (Black Velvet) If the Ting Tings had balls they would sound like Junkstar! Graham Duff (BBC IDEAL writer/performer)
Trashy, bruised art pop of the highest order. Keith Davis (ukmusicreview.com) Magazine - I.... like it..... I LOVE IT... what a fantastic sound! Andy Slade (PIT VIPER records) über-catchy - like an energetic mix of Scissor sisters, Mika and the B-52s! VERY HOT!
- Junkstar's debut single (limited 7’’/CD bundle and digital download) - was released April 13th 2009 after a limited edition custom painted pre-release version sold out in 3 days!
