Hailing from London, but with a distinctly international flavour, JUNKSTAR formed in 2007. The self styled 'junkies' have supported The Others, We are Scientists, Wendy James's Racine and uber-cool Fight Like Apes. They take the pop sensibilities of the Dandy Warhols & Arcade Fire & the urgency of bands like the Klaxons and Placebo as well as soaking up their other main influences (listed on your left) & synthesize them into a big brash sexy city swagger, all of their own. Regularly playing venues around Europe including the LA2 Astoria in London, Dublin’s Crawdaddy, the Liverpool Carling Academy and Amsterdam’s P60 festival; Junkstar pull off that precarious trick of delivering a masterclass of sleek hooks whilst providing you with a sound that resonates giddily, just like kissing a pretty girl. Or boy. Or animal.
THEY SAY: Graham Duff - (BBC IDEAL writer/performer):
"Trashy, bruised art pop of the highest order." Simon Williams - (Club Fandango):
"Head down' is a catchy and really likeable track - this band rocks - with wings!" Lynda Burke - (NME):
'Junkstar; a band so dynamic and energetic it's very hard to forget the spectacular presence they have on stage. With thundering beats and sweet melodic riffs, they are a class act destined for great things. ' Benjamin Zephaniah - (Poet, novelist and playwright):
'Junkstar sound good to me!' Andy Slade - (PIT VIPER records)
‘über-catchy - like an energetic mix of Scissor sisters, Mika and the B-52s! VERY HOT’ Alexander Havering - (Q Journalist):
"Almost every song here could work as a standalone single. Junkstar have perfect pop songs that touch base with bands like Neutral Milk Hotel and Goldfrapp, but still have something original to offer." Tom Stansworth - (Club Fandango live review):
"Junkstar put me in mind of bands such as Arcade Fire at times and also Ash.
The music did the talking. Recommended." Claire B - (the mag UK LIVE review):
"JC's appealing voice swung from rock growl to Scissor Sisters falsetto and managed to sound good both when singing normally and putting on showy effects. Bluebottles is a real fusion of Blur, the Bravery and Joy Division - it's a dramatic, catchy number!"
