JUNKUS_MINOR is based in Oulu, the cultural capital of northern Finland. It begun sometime in 2002, when Mocca and TMU clashed in a place that used to be a basement of an old pharmacists office. In between some abandoned bottles of ether and broken containers of sulphuric acid, breathing asbestos dust falling from the ages-old pipes in the ceiling and thinking about what to do with the rifles found behind the door which had a "DANGER! EXPLOSIVE MATERIAL!" -sign, songs were appearing in the dense air. The songs sounded like a combination of Nick Drake having desperate thoughts about Michael Stipe, using composing methods of Nick Cave and Pearl Jam. The base of Junkus Minor was formed.
Now leaning towards alternative electronic music and disco-punk, heavily influenced by country and folk music, with a twist towards grunge, JUNKUS_MINOR creates an atmosphere as dense as in the basement the whole thing was begun, ranging from acoustic shoegazing to sweaty countrypunk and bleeping electronic discorock.
JUNKUS_MINOR's music is made by singer Mocca Laitinen, guitarist TMU Kiiskilä and drummer Teemu Mustonen together. Usually Mocca writes the lyrics, but some is written by TMU.
TMU is a multi-instrumentalist, who is also a member of bands At The End and UTU, and makes electronic music by the name Ernesto Aeroflot. In the history he has been seen playing with bands such as Oliver, Marlon Panda and Verenn.
The live band behind JUNKUS_MINOR has changed many times during the years, but is now filled with ex-At The End members Jussi Kauppila on synthy devices and Alexi Kastelli (also member of Klaara) on bass.
JUNKUS_MINOR is now creating their debut album, which is to be released independently in the beginning of 2010.
