René Van Munster (Groningen, Netherlands)
Genre: tech-house - http://www.myspace.com/renevanmunster
René van Munster was born in Amsterdam in 1989. The son of two flutists and involved in music since a very young age, René started out playing the violin and later learned saxophone and cello with the latter being his current studying subject at the Prins Claus Conservatoire in Groningen. In 2007, René broadened his musical spectrum after discovering the infamous fidget-house sound pushed by artists like Dave “Solid Groove” Taylor and Jesse Rose and immediately got hooked on creating that brand of music. Together with his friend Brabe, he ventured into the realm of electronic dance music, started producing tracks and rapidly got myspace enthusiasts and dj's/producers like DJ Fame (Dubsided), Oliver $ (Made to play), Hijack (Jack Union), Lee Mortimer (Wearhouse Music) Hystereo (Kitsuné) and Sexual Chocolate (Junky Trunk) behind his productions. At the tender age of 19 and in a very brief amount of time, René Van Munster has created a very unique and quite distinct sound that has earned him a solid reputation as one of the most-respected remixers in today’s game.
Wongo & Ladgroove (Gold Coast, Queensland Australia)
Genre: wig-out house - http://www.myspace.com/wongomusic
HeavyFeet (Manchester, United Kingdom)
Genre: crunk, wobble-house - http://www.myspace.com/heavyfeet
HeavyFeet (Mike Burgess and James Medina) are best-known for crafting jerky, shuffled beats with wickedly wobbled basslines. HeavyFeet has pooled their collective talents to become two of the Manchester underground scene’s fastest rising stars at just 23 years old. HeavyFeet’s bass-heavy sound blends U.S. and UK house with breaks, hip hop and garage; the result is a shuffled arrangement of distorted vocals, old-skool rave noises, new-school Chicago jack and plenty of wobbly undertones. Mike and James also have expanded their DJ performance to include the both of them in a paired performance, incorporating laptop computer, MIDI controllers and FX units into the mix, with the now-standard twin CDJ set-up and an MC. Having produced original and remix work for a host of successful labels such as Junky Trunk, Potty Mouth, Wearhouse, Bombsquad and Tragic Magic, HeavyFeet continues to push their wonky, wobbled, bottom-heavy sound to massive crowd across the world.
Guy Herman - (Johannesburg, South Africa)
Genre: jackin-house, electro and fidget
Guy Herman’s foray into electronic dance music began in 1999. A natural talent, Guy quickly moved into the professional arena by 2001, securing a place in the finals of South Africa’s Technics Battle of the DJ's competition. Shortly after, Guy teamed with fellow South African DJ/Producer Jon S and formed Pimp Squad. It didn’t take long for Pimp Squad to establish themselves as one of the country’s most popular DJ tandems; eventually securing a much-coveted residency at Truth Nightclub in Midrand.
Not satisfied with the mere craft of mixing music, Guy Herman began producing around 2005. Similar to his rapid ascent in South Africa’s DJ ranks, Guy quickly scored several record deals and since then, has built-up an impressive discography on both domestic and international labels such as Junky Trunk Records, Grooved Music, Downsouth, Funkfield Recordings, Buzz Cut and Second Session.
Whether in-tandem as Pimp Squad or manning the decks solo, Guy's versatility, impeccable talent and exuberant DJ style has ensured billing alongside some of the worlds top DJ's and Producers including Carl Cox, Inland Knights, Dieselboy, Charles Webster, Harrison Crump, Alex Kid, Kaskade, Tim Westwood (Radio 1 UK), Brandon Block, Mr Thing (Scratch Perverts), Dominic B (Stanton Warriors) and Justin Robertson and he has accompanied names such as Joey Youngman, Jason Hodges, Jake Childs, Jay West and Sexual Chocolate on national tours of South Africa.
Expect big things from Guy Herman in 2009. Remix and original tracks are forthcoming on Flexual Records, Roostar Records, Electric Sushi and Junky Trunk and a DJ tour of the United States in April, alongside friend and labelmate Chicago’s Sexual Chocolate.
Sexual Chocolate-Jon DeFiore (Chicago, IL-USA)
Genre: fidget, tech-house - http://www.myspace.com/djsexualchocolate01
Since Jon DeFiore began producing under the Sexual Chocolate moniker in 2006, he has signed and released several noteworthy original tracks/remixes for reputable labels such as Junky Trunk, Spatula City, Control, Blockhead, Union and More Music. Sexual Chocolate first became known for his jackin’, Chicago house productions, though similarly to fellow Chicagoans Santiago & Bushido, he quickly was able to transform and refine his sound into what is currently defined as “fidget-house”. Making jackin’, juke-house drum beats with drum’n’bass basslines, techno breakdowns with the crunked-up attitude and feel of hip-hop was Sexual Chocolate’s original intention and this sound has been realized in his last several releases, including his latest offering Assbackwards on Chicago imprint Junky Trunk Records. Having toured Internationally as a DJ and operated one of the more successful record labels (Junky Trunk Records) in the current electronic dance music landscape, Sexual Chocolate continues to break boundaries with his unique, yet commercially successful original and remix work.
