JUPITER has been around since 2001, and the band sounded pretty decent from the first note. Actually, the first time the band ever played together was in a studio. This first ever JUPITER session became a demo which despite awful soundquality sounds kind of cool in a lo-fi kind of way. Anyway, the demo got us our first gigs, and opened some doors for us.
All three musicians share a common background in modern jazz, while still being open to other forms of music, and together with a mutual understanding of what music is and should be, this results in a unique sound with references to both post-rock and sci-fi-music as well as jazz. Most of the band's tunes are written by guitarist Håvard Stubø, but the JUPITER songbook also features originals by the other members, as well as the occasional cover.
Our first album, "Ignition", was released in 2004.
In 2006, we released our second album, "Live at Glenn Miller Café", which features Jonas Kullhammar on the tenor saxophone.
Our ongoing collaboration with Jonas has resulted in the recording of a double album, featuring six new tunes by Håvard and five by Jonas. It was released in mid November 2007 on the new Norwegian label Bolage. Check it out!
JUPITER has played around 100 gigs at jazzclubs and played at quite a few festivals. Most of these gigs have been in Norway and Scandinavia, but the band is widening its scope and will be travelling further in the near future...
