Have you seen
"City of God"? It's about life while growing up in Rio de Janeiro's favelas. Each favela is home to thousands of children, it's a place where police and other city services rarely go into because of gang wars and crime.
Children living in favelas are desperate for opportunities other than misery, violence, or worse. One place that gives children and their families a chance is Juriti.
Juriti is a school in a favela in the Northeast of Brazil in the state of Ceará. Many people migrate to this area with the hope of finding employment. The communities suffer from high rates of child prostitution, alcoholism, and domestic violence.
Juriti teaches children skills they can use to make life better for themselves. Children can attend workshops and learn circus entertainment techniques. Other classes emphasize recycling and improving the environment, or creating and selling cultural art.
The skills taught allow people to create income for themselves and their families. And this is the goal of Juriti, to help people that others have given up on.
Why should you help?
You care about people and want to give them a chance to make life better for themselves.
The Juriti school needs your help to extend more opportunities to more children and their families in the favelas.
Dreams Can Be supports the school and will make your donations go to work.
