About me: Her relationship with AIDS began at Highland General Hospital in Oakland, CA at the age of 12 when she stood by her fathers bedside and watched him die from AIDS. So, it's certainly no coincidince that this poetess, author and activist became one of the founding members of the popular safe sex collective The Punany Poets best noted for appearances on HBO/BET/PLAYboy, ect. She ended her alliance with them a couple of years ago for personal reasons as well as to focus her attention on AIDS activism.
She continues to spread her raw messages of safe sex through various art forms, the most recognized being Erotica.
She does outreach to people in her community by passing out codoms,literature, and producing artistic events that promotes HIV/AIDS awareness...primarily in places where alcohol is sold and communities of color.
jus'BEA also volunteers for the Alameda County Public Health Department Office of AIDS Administration on a regular basis and helps to coordinate many of thier events.
"I deem yself an ARTreprenuer- taking poetry beyond the pen and the page.Although I like to lyrically assisnate people at an open-mic from time to time, I also do obesity prevention workshops for teens to teach them to have responsibilty for thier health via a project called Scared Into Shape. If they can program an IPOD, they're smart enough to know that if you consume fast food everyday, that won't produce quality results. So, I hope my experiences will help them.
I've written books from: being cheated on, to living large and losing everything post 9-11-01... to getting fat and losing 300 pounds and gaining it back.
They are many dimensions to my art. To know them all is to know ME. People often ask what I do in my "spare" time. I reply, "I live and breathe my art...there's not much seperation between the two."

It's been a juggernaut, but "IF THE RAINS DON'T CLEANSE" (my novel about my parents' experiences as schoolteachers in 1950s Africa) is finally marked as "IN STOCK" at Amazon.com. Over the 4th of July weekend they sold out and for almost a week I was horrified that would-be readers were seeing a red "OUT OF STOCK" message when they tried to get a copy.
But all is now well, RAINS is getting strong reviews and a grown-up readership, and I'm thrilled.
