The Brooklyn based band System Noise and friends will team up on November 19th to throw a harvest party benefiting local non-profit Just Food. Representatives from Just Food, the leading local non-profit supporting Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) and community gardens/farms, will be on hand with a diverse group of local musicians at The Delancey to raise awareness about the local agriculture movement.
Just Food will be giving presentations on CSA and the City Farms Project. Both have received much press of late (including in the New York Times) as a means to get fresh, healthy, locally-grown food onto our plates. The CSA project brings together regional family farms and city dwellers in a direct relationship in which consumers can buy a share in a farmer’s season as an affordable and environmentally sustainable way to buy fresh local foods. The City Farm Project works to increase food production, marketing and distribution via community gardens throughout NYC by offering workshops, training materials, and networking opportunities for NYC communities to grow more food themselves and start community-run farmers markets in low-income neighborhoods.
Along with presentations on these projects, there will be performances by a diverse group of popular local acts who all support the local agriculture movement, including System Noise, Across the Aisle, Jesse Lenat and Thy Burden.
The Delancey is located at 168 Delancey St. between Clinton and Attorney and features a large upstairs bar and a great sounding downstairs live music venue. Tickets will be $10 at the door with proceeds going to Just Food. Doors will open at 7:30pm with the event starting shortly thereafter. Come gear up for Thanksgiving by raising money for agricultural projects that will save our local family farmers, the environment, and get fresh, affordable food onto the plates of New Yorkers.
