The Invitation
by Oriah
It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.
It doesn’t interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.
It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon...
I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened by life’s betrayals, or have become shriveled and closed
from fear of further pain.
I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it
or fade it, or fix it.
I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness, and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us, to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human.
It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me is true.
I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself.
If you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.
I want to know if you can see Beauty even when it is not pretty every day.
And if you can source your own life from its presence.
I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon, “Yes.”
It doesn’t interest me to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done to feed the children.
It doesn’t interest me who you know or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand in the centre of the fire with me and not shrink back.
It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments.

THINKERS ANONYMOUS
Do You Think Too Much?
It started out innocently enough I began to think at parties now and then to loosen up. Inevitably though, one thought led to another and soon I was more than just a social thinker.
I began to think alone - "to relax," I told myself - but I knew it wasn't true. Thinking became more and more important to me and finally I was thinking all the time.
I began to think on the job. I knew that thinking and employment don't mix, but I couldn't stop myself.
I began to avoid friends at lunchtime so I could read Thoreau and Kafka. I would return to the office dizzied and confused, asking, "What is it exactly we are doing here?"
Things weren't going so great at home either. One evening I had turned off the TV and asked my wife about the meaning of life. She spent that night at her mother's.
I soon had a reputation as a heavy thinker. One day the boss called me in. He said, "Skippy, I like you, and it hurts me to say this, but your thinking has become a real problem. If you don't stop thinking on the job, you'll have to find another job." This gave me a lot to think about.
I came home early after my conversation with the boss. "Honey," I confessed, "I've been thinking..."
"I know you've been thinking," she said "and I want a divorce!"
"But honey, surely it's not that serious."
"It is serious," she said, lower lip aquifer. "You think as much as college professors, and college professors don't make any money, so if you keep on thinking we won't have any money!"
"That's a faulty syllogism," I said impatiently and she began to cry. I'd had enough. "I'm going to the library," I snarled as I stomped out the door.
I headed for the library, in the mood for Nietzsche, with a PBS station on the radio. I roared into the parking lot and ran up to the big glass doors....they didn't open. The library was closed. To this day, I believe that a Higher Power was looking out for me that night.
As I sank to the ground clawing at the unfeeling glass, whimpering for Zarathustra, a poster caught my eye. "Friend, is heavy thinking ruining your life?" it asked. You probably recognize that line. It comes from the standard Thinker's Anonymous poster.
Which is why I am what I am today, a recovering thinker. I never miss a TA meeting. At each meeting we watch a non-educational video; last week it was "Porky's." Then we share experiences about how we avoided thinking since the last meeting.
I still have my job, and things are a lot better at home. Life just seemed...easier, somehow, as soon as I stopped thinking

She replied that it would be well to realize very early on.........
Someone will always be prettier. Someone will always be smarter. Someone's house will be bigger. They will drive a better car. Their children will do better in school. And their husband will fix more things around the house. So ......... let it go.
Live so you can love yourself...
Take pride in your accomplishments, however seemingly big or small!!
Think about it!!
The prettiest woman in the world can have hell in her heart.
And the most highly favored woman on your job may be unable to have children.
And the richest woman you know, she's got the car, the house, the clothes...might be lonely.
And the word says if "I have not Love, I am nothing."
So, again, love you. Love who you are.
Look in the mirror in the morning and smile and say:
"I am too blessed to be stressed and too anointed to be disappointed!"
"Winners make things happen.
Losers let things happen"
Be Blessed ladies and pass this on to encourage another woman.
I am supposed to pick 12 women (who have touched my life) and whom I
think would want to participate. I think that if this group of women
were ever to be in a room together, there is nothing that would be
impossible. I hope I chose the right twelve. My hugs, love, gestures
and communications hopefully remind you how special that you are. Please send this back to me.
Remember
to make a wish before you read the prayer. That's all you have to do.
There is nothing attached. Just send this to twelve people and let me
know what happens on the fourth day. Sorry you have to forward the
message, but try not to break this, please. Prayer is one of the best
free gifts we receive. Did you make a wish yet? If you don't make a
wish, it won't come true.
This is your last chance to make a wish!
'May
today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where
you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that
are born of faith in yourself and others. May you use the gifts that
you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May
you be content with yourself just the way you are.
Let this
knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to
sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us.
Now, send this to 12 women. And remember to send this back. I count as 1...you'll see why.
