Influences
Nationally known entertainment attorney Jeff Cohen and other music industry veterans founded JTMP in order to fill a particular need in today's world - connecting with and giving a voice to youth & young professionals by speaking a language they understand, music. Music plays a significant role in a democratic society by providing musicians with the means to share their thoughts and values with others, and providing others with a unique visual and aural means to learn about issues and participate in democratic process. Our goal is to help eliminate political and social apathy and compliment the terrific work being done by other civil liberties, human rights and activist organizations. Our mission is to use music to focus attention on privacy rights, due process, equality, women's issues, fairness, freedom of expression, peace and voting. JTMP firmly believes that the full power of these rights can only be achieved through the rule of law and the democratic process.
Sounds Like

LEGENDARY MUSICIAN ACTIVIST
MARY TRAVERS PASSES
Mary Travers, a legendary singer who played a major role in history by being an activist musician in the 1960s, died on September 16 after a battle with leukemia for several years. She was of course the "Mary" in "Peter, Paul and Mary", the great folk group in the 1960s that gave us great versions of songs such as "If I Had a Hammer", and "Lemon Tree". They helped the career of Bob Dylan by performing some of his songs such as "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" and "Blowin' in the Wind", which they performed at at the August 1963 March on Washington.
In the late 1960s when many folk musicians turned to electric guitars the folk music boom waned, but they kept on. In 1967 she and her bandmates, Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey, also performed the John Denver classic, "Leaving on a Jet Plane" and the Mamas and Papas hit, "I Dig Rock and Roll Music". They would write songs for Gordon Lightfoot and Laura Nyro, as well as win a "Best Children's Album" Grammy in 1969 for "Pater, Paul and Mommy".
She and her bandmates were politically active over the years, reuniting to perform a concert in 1978 to protest nuclear energy, and another concert in 1995 at Kent State University to mark the anniversary of the shootings there, and even performing to support strawberry pickers in California. In 2004, they performed at Wolftrap, the only National Park for the performing Arts, playing music that sang about peace, equality and justice. They sang the anti-war classic, "Where Have all the Flowers Gone", and Peter Yarrow spoke about his work with the anti-war movement. Senator Max Cleland was in the audience, and Peter Yarrow apologized for his mistake saying he "confused the warrior with the war", and Senator Cleland got a standing ovation.
Mary Allin Travers was born on Nov. 9, 1936 in Louisville, Kentucky, and would later move with her family to Manhattan's bohemian Greenwich Village. She actually lived in the same building as Pete Seeger, and would record one album with him and even perform with Mr. Seeger, before meeting Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookers in 1961 and forming "Peter, Paul and Mary".
Mary was an inspiration to us all, and one of the major figures in using music as a catalyst for social justice. She will be missed by us all. You can read words of inspiration about her by her bandmates at her website HERE, and below is a classic performance by her and the band from 1966.
MUSICIAN AND POET MICHAEL FRANTI
BLENDS MUSIC AND SOCIAL JUSTICE
Michael Franti is an American-born poet, songwriter and musician that blends a variety of musical influences into his personal music and passion for social justice. Michael, and his band "Michael Franti and Spearhead", blend rock, raggae, hip-hop, funk, and many other styles and is an outspoken champion of social justice issues such as the death penalty, the prison system and corporate globalization.
Michael got started in 1986 with the industrial punk band called the Beatnigs. He went on to a project called "The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy", and in 1994 formed his present band "Michael Franti and Spearhead", going on to form his own label. In 1999 his song "Sometimes", was included on the soundtrack to the film, "Mystery Men".
Michael and his band have used extensive touring and alternative media such as Mother Jones magazine and Democracy Now to develop a huge following, and holds a "Power to the Peaceful" music festival each year. He played 3 events to commemorate President Barack Obama's Inauguration, including a Rock the Vote party.
He and his band released "All Rebel Rockers" last year, with the songs being recorded mainly in Jamiaca and having a raggae sound, and is currently touring and using his music as a catalyst for social justice. JTMP urges our supporters to check his music out, and support him.
Jordan Page personifies what we look for and appreciate
in musicians. A bold stance, and using their music for social
change.
JTMP invites our supporters to check out Jordan's great music.

JTMP'S FEATURED ARTIST
KIOSK
Our current featured artist is KIOSK, a great
"underground Iranian band" that speaks out
about the current struggle in Iran for democracy
and human rights. We caught up with them at a rally
and interviewed them, and also filmed one of their
performances, the video is below.
The musicians and artists from Iran are speaking the voices of the people despite attacks and imprisonment oF them by the authorities.
We want to make sure that those voices are heard loud and clear, far and wide. Therefore, we are launching our new “Protest Music From Iran” Campaign, asking Iranian musicians of all genres to send us videos and mp3s of their protest songs to songs(at)jtmp.org.
Unity Music Group, an independent, Baltimore, MD based, artist collective and record label formed in 2008 with the goal of helping to promote and centralize a largely-overlooked scene of independent singers and songwriters from the Baltimore area. They hope to define a connection between the music that a young generation is writing, and the future of the world we live in. Check out their MySpace site at MySpace.com/UnityMusicGroup.
The benefit was to help raise money for cancer survivor Benny Nickerson, and was a great success. Some of the performers were Danny Olson, Jesse Rommel, Matt Pless, ILYAIMY, and Armed Elephant. You can watch all the great videos and check out their cool songs at our YouTube Channel:

JTMP AND OP-CRITICAL
WANT TO CHANGE THE WORLD
JTMP and Op-Critical have teamed up to do a remake of Alvin Lee's great song, "Change The World". Ten Years After released this song way back in 1971. This version has a new arrangement, updated lyrics, and a second lead solo that wasn't on the original version.
We hope this video inspires people to act and volunteer for the many great organizations that are featured in the video. We can Change The World by our individual acts.
JTMP FEATURED ARTIST KIRSTEN PRICE
Kirsten Price has caught JTMP's attention for not only her good music and soulful voice, but also the way she uses her talents to speak out politically with her poignant song and video, "Freedom". Check out the video below.
Kirsten is currently recording her next album, and you can find out more about her by going to her web site.

JTMP'S FEATURED "GREEN" ARTIST THE LONDON SOULS
The London Souls rocked the house at the Power Shift 09 Conference here in DC, and they sat down with us for an interview to discuss green touring, their green record label, and the importance of registering and voting.
Acrassicauda, which means "black scorpion", is a heavy metal band that is featured in a documentary called "Heavy Metal in Baghdad" by filmmakers Eddy Moretti and Suroosh Alvi. Some heavy metal bands sing about war, death and destruction but haven't experienced it; these guys have. Their practice space was even destroyed at one time. They have recently moved to the US, and currently live in New Jersey and are pursuing a rock music career.
Several musicians have gotten together for an album to benefit "BioTour", a group that is traversing the country in a bus converted to run on waste vegetable oil (WVO) and solar electrical power to educate people on renewable energy and sustainability. We have received a "pre-release" digital version (no plastic!) and we will be featuring many of the songs in the days ahead.
Felipe Coronel, known by his stage name as "Immortal Technique" is a Peruvian-born musician that uses his talent to speak about important political and social issues.
In a song called The 4th Branch from his second album, Revolutionary Volume 2, for example, Tech sings:
Media censorship, blocking out the video screens
A continent of oil kingdoms, bought for a bargain
Democracy is just a word, when the people are starvin'
The average citizen, made to be, blind to the reason
JTMP and Op-Critical re-release Happy Springtime Video!

The 2008 Election and the Youth Vote
CIRCLE has just released the figures of the youth voter turnout from the 2008 election, and JTMP is happy to announce that they are up. It is estimated that 23 million Americans under the age of 30 voted in the 2008 Presidential election. That is up by 3.4 million compared with the 2004 election.
Youth voter turnout rose to 53 percent, the highest turnout rate since 1972 (55.4%). These young people represented 18 percent of the voters in the 2008 election, one point higher than the last 3 Presidential elections.
JTMP has been on the forefront of youth voter participation, and strong dividends are now paying off, and we will continue to work hard to make sure this trend continues.
ROCK YOUR RIGHTS III is out! JTMP announces the release of “Rock Your Rights 3” DVD! NPC Newsmaker Discussion On America's Air Quality
The National Press Club Newsmaker Committee held a Discussion on America's Air Quality, and the report was disturbing. The EPA has released a report that 158 million Americans still live in areas that contain pollution that is harmful to our health, and much of that pollution is particulate matter coming from the tailpipes of our cars.
JTMP was at the press conference as a guest of William O'Brien, CEO of Sabertec, who was on the panel. JTMP discovered Sabertec at Earthday 2008 here in Washington, DC. They have developed a product called "The Blade", which attaches to the tailpipe of your car, and filters out much of the CO2 and particulate matter using a replaceable filter. JTMP had this product installed on our vehicles, and not only are we polluting less, we have also seen a 15% increase in gas mileage.
This event announced the completed second round of testing at ATDS this Fall, using the EPA 511 Protocol and Society of Automotive engineers (SAE) J 1321 road test. The results prove without a doubt that the Blade effect is real and repeatable across foreign and domestic, 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder, 8 cylinder and Hybrid vehicles. These results make Blade the first and ONLY automotive after market product to EVER show significant CO2 reductions and fuel economy increases by the EPA 511 Protocol. Please visit Sabertec.org.
Below is a video of highlights from that press conference.
