NEWS UPDATE!!! April 1st. 2007
We're excited to announce that the Intricate Minds teamed up with Rawkus Records, who recognized them as "one of the 50 next important Hip Hop artists," for their Rawkus 50 campaign. As a result, Intricate Minds debut album "Self-Hypnosis" will now be promoted and marketed by Rawkus. This agreement benefits both parties equally, as Rawkus is rebuilding its empire with brand new artists suited to represent its logo, and the Intricate Minds crew prepares to take the international stage.
Justin Crates Bio:
DJ/Producer/Emcee from Alberta, Canada. Head producer of the Intricate Minds and Golden Disciples. Crates's debut appearance was in 2001 on G.D's debut EP GoldFinger. Other releases include, Crates N the Profound Sound's limited edition 7", "Mad Clients" and Intricate Minds debut album "Self-Hypnosis" which just dropped March/07. Crates has performed and collaborated with artists such as OHNO,Hezekiah, PACEWON, Grand Agent, WordsWorth,Del tha Funky Homosapien, Swollen Members, Kool Herc, Scratch Bastid, Dragon Fli Empire and the list goes on.....
Asides from performing/writing/mixing and Dj'ing. Justin Crates is first and foremost a diverse multi genre producer and a future force to be reckoned with in the recording world. Crates is also a composer and has done work for MTV and Ride Guide TV.
Intricate Minds Bio:
Alberta, Canada based hip-hop group Intricate Minds are making their initial impact felt with the debut album Self-Hypnosis. By blending rock, jazz, reggae and funk influences with topical commentary, each individual displays poetic and fluid rap styles. In a country where urban music is not a consistently driving force in popular music, this five man crew believes a change is in the near future. Music should be fun, intriguing, energetic and true, leaving you anticipating the next note. The Intricate Minds aim to achieve this each second of every song. While preparing, and leading up to this release, the crew has performed and collaborated with heavyweights such as Del, Swollen Members, Kool Herc, Oh No, Hezekiah, Pacewon, Grand Agent, Dragon Fli Empire, Scratch Bastid, Soso, McEnroe and numerous others.
Self-Hypnosis was released independently March 6th of 2007. The buzz increased shortly after when Intricate Minds teamed up with Rawkus Records, who named them, “one of the next 50 important hip-hop artists.” Rawkus is a highly influential rap label that started one of the most major cultural movements in hip-hop history back in the mid 90’s. Original home to artists like Mos Def and Talib Kweli. Rawkus is back in 2007 to make their presence felt once again, and have exclusive digital distribution of the Self-Hypnosis album, as well as handling marketing and promotion. With websites like I Tunes reporting phenomenal increases in traffic and sales, the Intricate Minds think digital distribution will continue to be a rapidly growing trend over the coming years.
Intricate members Synaptix, Verse, Profound Sound, Justin Crates and the newest addition DJ Kalo are on a mission to bring the worldwide hip-hop communities attention in a new direction, northwest. For the past few years, job opportunities and school have kept the group spread across the province. Edmonton, Red Deer and Calgary all claimed by the crew as home, leaving recording, rehearsals and performances to be juggled on weekends or days off, including the many miles traveled. The so far great response of the debut album makes the effort well worth it, and displays only a glimpse of what potential could be reached if the Intricate Minds found an opportunity to record and perform full time.
