If you close your eyes during one of Justine Bennett’s performances, you are carried back to the Golden Age of the Bay Area’s musical culture, when long haired beauties strummed their guitars in open plazas and sang of love, peace and change. The influence of artists, such as Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, Natalie Merchant, and Sarah McLachlan are evident in Justine’s artistry, with a style all her own.
The Bay Area has embraced Justine following her move from small town Silverton, tucked in the mountains of British Columbia. With a life long dream and a few dollars in her pocket, Justine settled in San Francisco five years ago and since then, her star has been rising.
Her latest EP, Invisible, is where Justine’s storybook career unfolds. While making a record in San Francisco, celebrated producer Jeff Dawson (Daniel Powter/Kelly Rowland) caught one of her live performances. At the time she was making a comeback from surgery to alleviate a career threatening medical condition. Despite being in recovery, Jeff immediately recognized her unique talent and, a few months later, she was off to Vancouver to record her latest compilation. Their common Canadian roots sparked musical magic at the Warehouse Studios with world famous mixer Mike Fraser (AC-DC) and Joe Cruz (Sarah McLachlan’s guitar player) joining to complete the fairytale.
Due for release January 13th, Invisible is an EP that contains beautiful ballads, political vibrations and life inspired songs that grab at your heartstrings and leave you hoping to hear more
