Justin's Interests
|
| General | Music - Rock, Progressive Rock, Classic Rock, Indie Rock, etc. Jazz of all sorts - particularly Bebop, Avant Garde, Free, Contemporary, Swing, etc. Classical, particularly that of the 20th / 21st century. Alt-Country, old school country, Texas swing, folk, bluegrass, stuff with notes and instruments.
Musician - performance, theory, composition, criticism, music business, technology, history (particularly all forms and facets of jazz history and its influence on and by popular / political cultures, etc.), any bits of information I can get my hands on. My goal before I die is to become a jazz pianist...
Film - indie films, critics picks, film history, dramas, comedies, film theory, criticism, film making, etc.
Politics - very interested in American politics of the last 100 years.
Books - virtually anything. Big fan of literature on jazz, rock, music. Love the existentialists. Lifelong Stephen King fan. Poetry - Pablo Neruda is a favorite. Essays - Ralph Ellison. Pulp (kinda) - John Grisham. Mysteries - Ed McBain. Jazz criticism / essays - Gary Giddins. Old school - Thomas Mann. Very old school - Shakespeare. New school - Johnathan Franzen.
Sports - St. Louis Cardinals!!! - major league baseball. Baseball in all its glory... history, stats, conversation, baseball cards (ah to be 12 years old again!) attending games!! Minor league baseball - Memphis Redbirds, Nashville Sounds, Chattanooga Lookouts fan. University of Tennessee Volunteers fan for life... Tennessee Titans fan... Wish I had a TV channel with nothing but old school boxing (Ali, Frasier, Foreman) and '70s-'80s wrestling (every match Andre the Giant ever fought in... goin' back to the childhood there, yo)
Technology - though I may be the last guy on earth to figure out computers and sophisticated recording industry gear, I still gaze in wonder at it all, and I still want to lear how to run it before I die. I am something of a geek. Definitely a music geek. Jazz geek. A techno-geek wannabe maybe.
Stuff - art, theater / drama, general wierdness and random acts of kindness / humanitarianism. |

About me:
I am a 29 year old musician, media junkie, jazz head, rock afficionado, film fanatic, lover of all great music and the printed word. I am interested in the arts (obviously), politics. sports (lifelong St. Louis Cardinals and University of Tennessee Volunteers fan), and more recently, computer technology. I have a very cool job as a network analyst, where I honestly learn something new every other hour I am there. I believe in God, I believe in forgiveness, and I believe in love. By summer of next year, I intend to be married to my perfect match, my soulmate - the woman I am currently dating. I am terribly human, terribly sensitive and self-conscious / self-critical. I sometimes have difficulty expressing myself to others. But hey, life wouldn't be any fun without some challenges, would it? I find my greatest enemy is my own complacency at times, my gen-x curse of laziness and slackerdom. I hope I can find the way to make improvements upon myself a little bit every day for the rest of my life. I am incredibly lucky and blessed to have a wonderful circle of friends and 2 awesome parents that support me in everything I do. If nothing else, I hope to be more thoughtful towards my friends, less spoiled, and I hope to stop taking the good things in my life so much for granted. I hope to work harder at being a musician, at being a friend, at being a future husband and at being a better person. I am vowing now to try to use my space here at uh myspace for positive, rather than endlessly complaining about personal issues that no one cares about. As Lennon and McCartney said, and as we all should remember : Life is very short, and there's no time for fussing and fighting, my friend...

Who I'd like to meet:
Anyone and everyone. In this life, you can never have enough friends, right? Musicians, film fanatics, lovers of song, prose, politics, sports, whatever.... fellow cool humans in the mid-TN area, in the country, in the world... word to your next of kin. Or something. Oh, and if I could arrange a day long conversation and jam session with Pete Townshend, Richard Thompson, John Cale, Michael Nesmith, David Bowie, Thom Yorke and Adrian Belew, that would be okay too. So, say hi, people!
