   About Justin Saban
"People that I work with, in general, are making music because it means a lot to them" Steve Albini

I record, produce and mix music for a living, which is a very nice thing to do.

I use the best of both classic analogue and digital recording gear. I believe in "front end recording" where you just get it right from the start - a great performance and sound - microphones, mic placement, preamps and analogue recording equipment. I'm often asked by bands why I record onto tape AND use a Mac ...back to Steve Albini:

"Anyone who has made records for more than a very short period, will recognise that trying to manipulate a sound after it has been recorded is never as effective as when it's recorded correctly in the first place. Unfortunately almost all the recording software in digital recording is designed to manipulate sound, rather than record it, and so most digital sessions are primarily about manipulating sound, rather than recording sound."

And it sounds sooo much better :o) OK. Nuff said.

Latest Recording News:
Hekz have just supported the amazing daevid Allen of Gong, Pure Reason Revolution's album is out on Superball Music - it's in HMV etc - go and buy a copy and revel in me 'n' Tom's mixing mastery :o) - they're still touring Europe, last seen in Italy and Switzerland... The Molotovs have been doing nicely - listen out on the radio, Load"" are currently mixing their new album, The Great Statesmen are recording a brilliant single at the moment, the genius of Blumunki record a new EP late October, and The Fabulous Weapon make a joyous return late November. Voltron are in late Oct for a few days of fuzz frolics (it's gonna be fun!), The Silence will be in the studio soon, Load"" are planning a return to the studio in December, and Drive Like Casey start a new recording in Feb 2010, Hekz will be releasing their Xmas song soon - if you have a copy with the original ending look after it, could be yer pension plan.... Pirate radio will be making a most welcome return to the studio shortly. I might even get to record my own band in November... woo hoo :o)

PRODUCTION - ENGINEERING - MIXING -DEMO RECORDING - EDITING - MASTERING - ARCHIVING

A few recent and current projects include: Pure Reason Revolution - The Molotovs - Clean George IV - Blind Jackson - Dirty Fuzz (Basement Jaxx/Hawkwind) - Yeti (The Libertines) - Garrett - Shapes - Hekz - Henry & The Bleeders - The Dirty Tricks - Redskope - Some Princes - Comic Boy - Reverie - Blumunki - Drive Like casey - This Mission - Alias - Fruition - Bowfinger - Pirate Radio - Minimal Damage - The Kindred - Loose Thread - Toy Drum - The Suspects - Loveburger - - Novacaine - Phonic Rapture - Third Law - Poseidon - Otis - Superzero - The Informers - The Most - The Adenoids - The Occassion - The Antec Sonata - The Blue Rinse - The Friday Nights - Load"" - Charlie Indestructible - The backspace Kid - The Assault - The Janet Street Preachers, Speedshot, The Sweeney Experience, The Fabulous Weapon, Arnika, Rogue, The Great Statesmen, ... and so so many many many many more since 1998....

Hello Justin! Thanks for the comment, and good to hear you liked it. It was a good night at the hatfactory; awesome place ;). Good to see what you're up to. Sound like a busy but musical agenda. We will probably go back to the Hatfactory at the end of the year, I'll let you know when we are around Luton again. If you would like to be up to date you can sign up for our monthly newletter on our Myspace(upcoming gigs, special offers etc.) Keep the music going, and thanks for getting in touch!
