Hey Everyone I hope you are ready for the last open mic this semester and even better news it will be an oppertunity for some of you to win some cash! Even though we are having a slam, all other performers are still welcome to sign up for open mic which will be 7:30 to 8:15. Sign up for open mic and slam begins at 7:15.
Please try to be on time so we could get the show on the road on time!
What is a Poetry Slam? A poetry slam is a competition at which poets read or recite original work. These performances are then judged on a numeric scale by previously selected members of the audience.
Rules of TPOM’s slam -All Slam entries will require a $5 entry fee. The winner of the slam will receive half of total entry fees. The remainder of fees will go to fundraiser (more info at event).
-There will be 3 rounds of competition.
Number of poets to proceed to the next round will be determined by number of entries -Judges will be 5 members of the audience chosen by night’s M.C.
or host -After each poet performs, each judge awards a numeric score to that poem. Scores will range between a low of zero and a high of ten.
-The highest and lowest score are dropped, giving each performance a rating between zero and thirty points.
-A "sacrificial poet," will go first in which the judges will score in order to calibrate their judging.
-Props, costumes, and music are forbidden.
-Each poet will have three minutes (and a grace period of ten seconds), after which a poet's score may be docked according to how long the poem exceeded the limit.
