When your mother was a singer in the legendary group
'The Honey Cone', and your father was their writer, needless to say you
have sizeable shoes to fill. But to Los Angeles native Just Perry, this is
just good grooming.
Just Perry draws influence and experience from a variety of sources to
create what he describes as "R&B blended with a Hiphop swagger".
Growing up with the experience and natural talents of his parents, in
addition to the raw, honest and straight-to-the-point confidence of
Hiphop has enabled Just Perry to create something truly unique.
After singing and performing all of his life via the Church Choir, and
later singing background vocals for the likes of Toni Braxton and
SiedahGarrett as well as ghost writing for numerous artists, the first true
testament to Just Perry's ability to pen simple, but clever songs that
will undoubtedly become timeless classics, is his first single from his
as-yet untitled debut album called 'My Way', which he describes as
"A sexual song."
'My Way' with it's infectious groove and Just's soulful vocals,
doesn't beat around the bush. In fact where other R&B artists dwell on
overly mushy, unrealistic ideals of fantasy, Just Perry plays it cool
inviting women into his world with a open mind and heart proclaiming
compromise: '[if] My way is your way, your way could be my way'.
Drawing outside family influence from the likes of R-Kelly to Jay-Z,
Just Perry has been able to carve a niche for his unique vocals and song writing
destined to reach, and even exceed his parents' pinnacle. "My father
is my mentor" Just explains his families involvement with his music
" my mom has ears like crazy"... My father taught me to never look
at [a project] from one verse [to the next], see it all the way
through."
It is this mentoring that has instilled Just Perry with the foresight
toperfect his material immaculately, focusing on his project in its
entirety opting for a 'Quality over quantity' philosophy that seems
to be lacking in the musical landscape of today.
With aspirations of bringing a solid foundation back to music with his
brand of R&B, Just Perry also has visions of the future that include
himwriting for more artists and running his own record label, all the
whilesharing his knowledge, talents and experience with others through
teaching and mentoring himself.
As a member of a family with prestigious musical accolades, Just Perry
has learnt and mastered the disciplines of writing, and producing hit
music from beginning to end solidifying his place not only in his
families legacy, but also the future of music, period.
