"In the world of rock ‘n roll, “unique” is a word tossed around with often reckless abandon by those desiring to be just that. All too often however, what we end up with is a reconstituted mix of what’s been done oh so many times before.
Then lo and behold along come, “The Essentials.” This New Jersey based band offers a sound that’s fresh, comfortably familiar, accessible, and yes, unique.
Their new CD, “Sunny Day,” is a fascinating and entertaining tapestry of rock, ballads, and country. Coupled with their distinctly stylistic vocals, pleasing, intelligent lyrics, and first-rate musicianship, it offers a clean break from the morass of the everyday.
The Essentials sound is entirely unpretentious and genuinely fun. It’s music for the music lover who hasn’t forgotten that above all else music is supposed to provide joy and pleasure to the listener, and its these very things that The Essentials deliver in abundance."
CDs, MP3 downloads, T-shirts and other cool stuff available below from, Itunes, Rhapsody and CDBaby!

HERE'S WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT, "THE MARSHMALLOW THEORY..."
From, Jeremiah Sutherland, www.bullfrogmusic.com:
"So now come The Essentials who seem to be emulating (occasionally simultaneously) Frank Zappa, Tom Waits, your local rock band from the early 70s and a band called The Essentials. Talk about multiple personality city! But this is not a disorder so long as it doesn’t get in the way of producing good music.
A la Tom Waits, some of the songs are stories, vignettes of encounters in the dark streets of the naked city or the naked mind. In the Essential world, picking up a blonde on the street is not always about sex in a car and superheroes can’t always fly.
Enhancing the occasional serious tone of their lyrics, there are some hooky melodies and excellent, unalloyed hard rock playing. Don’t try to place this music in a style or time period, just enjoy."
From, J. Silverstein, music writer, "The Scene" TX:
"Good music is essential to any serious music lover, and one band that provides this in abundance is most appropriately named, The Essentials.
The Essentials current CD, The Marshmallow Theory, is a solid collection of quality Rock and Roll (Not "Rock." "Rock and Roll." There's a difference). It's not loud noise, it's music. The Essentials pay strict attention to the guitar and devote the full respect it deserves as the versatile musical instrument that it is. Each song has it's own sound. The band's arrangements are easy to groove to and aren't complicated. The musicianship is tight and nobody is trying to impress you with anything other than the music itself, which is a refreshing change from the usual."
From Chas Morris, music enthusiast:
"For those among us who survived the Summer of Love, the Hare Krishna, Woodstock, the Moonies, sit-ins, love-ins, sleep-ins, and Vietnam, this music will have an especially haunting quality and power to evoke. For the younger listener, be not dismayed. This album will stand on it’s own merits.
The musicianship is outstanding. With Art on vocals, guitar, some bass, Nancy on vocals, hand percussion, Kevin Joella on lead guitar, Louie Vasile on bass, and Ed Albrecht on drums, they have hit their collective stride. Fueled by the creative energy that flows between them, they complement one another perfectly, and with Art and Nancy switch-hitting on lead vocals, the mix of styles is sure to please.
Summary: The Essentials have produced some seriously fun music with a few cerebral notes for the seekers among you. This is one group you can get to know and enjoy, intimately, through their music, and so you should."
