Born and raised in Nashville, TN, Justyna Kelley was exposed to the charms and the perils of the music industry from the very beginning. Growing up in Music City and having renowned singer/songwriter and recording artist Irene Kelley for a mother, musical visitors and impromptu jam sessions at home were the norm. From an early age, Justyna was encouraged by both her parents to pursue her gift for singing, performing and songwriting. When she received her first guitar for Christmas at age 9, she realized that this was not only her calling, but a deep passion that she would pursue naturally and fearlessly.
Towards the end of her high school career, Justyna began to take the craft of songwriting more seriously, write more proficiently and actively pursue co-writing opportunities with other great writers in Nashville. It was then that she was able to hone her song-writing skills and create a body of work that continues to grow. She became even more skilled in guitar and piano as her reverence for musical greats such as Joni Mitchell, Patti Griffin, James Taylor and The Beatles continued to inspire her.
She attended college at The University of the South, where she became a member of the University Jazz Band and the local rock group that performed around campus. A double major in music and theatre, Justyna was awarded the opportunity to study acting in New York City at the prestigious Michael Howard Studios for the spring semester of 2006. She stayed on for several months after to find herself performing as an Off-Broadway actor and singing original music in clubs around Manhattan. It was during that year in New York that she began working in the studio with such music business icons as Charles Koppelman, Joel Simon and Guy Eckstine, who is now her current manager and executive producer of her debut album.
During these college years, and between studies, Justyna also toured around the country with Irene Kelley as a back-up singer and would often open the shows with a set of her original music. They performed at venues around the US, headlining theatres and opening for such luminaries as: Jackson Browne, Emmy Lou Harris and Jonathan Edwards. These experiences fueled the artist's fire for Justyna and gave her the confidence and direction she finds herself in to this present day. After graduating Summa Cum Laude from her university, she moved to LA to carve out a career in the music business.
Justyna continues to make regular trips to New York City and to her hometown of Nashville, where she has the ever-growing support of successful artists, music business executives and a world class songwriting community. Her lyrics are heartfelt, her melodies sophisticated and intricate and her music is beyond her young years. She begins recording her debut album in May 2009 with David Kershenbaum (LA) and Kevin Killen (NY) to produce. Keep a look-out for her record in early 2010!
