In August of 2009 I went up to rural Somerset County, PA with engineer and occasional collaborator Alex DeTurk to make an album in the woods. Braving ambiguous weather, limited battery life, and about ten thousand mosquitos, we tracked a nine-song solo performance in the great outdoors as part of a field recording project to be featured on Alex's (still in development) website of sessions done in unconventional settings. The music is framed by the ambience of a summer afternoon where a change in wind or a plane flying overhead contributes to a performance as deeply as the execution itself. The playing is confident and the songs are my favorites from the past couple of years. This is the first official factory-printed Justyn with a Y release and I couldn't be happier.
