In this era, where the fresh and innovative sounds that once ignited Hip Hop culture have come to a stifled halt, it can be hard to distinguish one rapping replica from the next. Now there is a mouthwatering craving among the masses for true artists to “stand up and stand out”—to bring showmanship back to the game. This is where music meets JUZCOZ, a diversely talented duo made up of MC/producers Chilawil and Roderickvonn.

From their humble beginnings as separate artists working the Houston music circuit, Roderickvonn and Chilawil met through a small group of like-minded artists. After working together briefly on small projects, both rhymers developed a mutual respect for the other’s skills and formed what today has evolved into JUZCOZ.

JUZCOZ’s music recipe is made up of an enticingly unique blend of classic Hip Hop, Electronica, Funk, Soul, and R&B, making an eclectically fresh and yet nostalgic sound. It’s the summoned sound of Hip Hop greats that have gone before them like De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest, the carefree spirit of rock and soul, and the creative caliber of current Hip Hop icons like Outkast and Devin Tha Dude among many others. More than anything the sound of JUZCOZ is all of these things and still distinctly their own.

But it’s performing in front of audiences that is a particularly good catalyst for the creativeness and boundary pushing antics that the group is really known for. JUZCOZ comes to life on stage with their charismatic choreography and “in-your face” energy. Fully clad in “fly” gear to match, JUZCOZ has steadily built a reputation for their shows throughout Houston and are well on their way to becoming one of the industry’s rising stars. It’s in these performances and through their music that people can truly see and understand that for JUZCOZ this is not about superstardom, but about creating a craft that’s raw, honest, and timeless.

For JUZCOZ, the present focus is progressing to the next level by expanding their musical reach worldwide. Backed by Houston-based indie label Esthetic Noise Records, JUZCOZ is going against the grain of the average Houston rap stigmas. “We appreciate the music of other rappers that come out of Houston, but we want to show the world that there are many different sounds that come from this city.” says Roderickvonn. Chilawil adds “We want to make music that everyone loves—even someone who generally doesn’t like Hip Hop…classic music that people remember.”
