Kai formed in Miami, in early 2003, when lead guitarist Andy Barrow and rhythm guitarist Ignace Hage decided to put their ideas on tape. To handle vocal duties, they enlisted established world music artists, Michael Benjamin and Olivier Duret. To add depth and weight to the ideas, the rhythm section was filled out with the bassist Hernan Rodriguez. These five musicians, hailing from the United States, Africa, Venezuela, and Haiti, have made it a point to target a wide array of listeners.
Kai's music combines elements of Rock, Hip Hop, and Reggae into a powerful acoustic sound. Built on infectious grooves and captivating melodies, it is a sound both accessible and chalenging. They demonstrate musical talent within the context of well crafted songs.
