Kai Sanchez was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela. In 1992 he began attending his hometown conservatory Jose Luis Paz, were he studied music theory and double bass with Roberto Di Mazo and Maciej Zlotkowski, respectively. At the end of 1995 Kai moved to the United States and in 1996 he began attending Miami-Dade Community College, and later the prestigious school of music at the Universty of Miami where he earned a bachelor in music with emphasis in Jazz Performance on 2001. At both schools he was awarded music scholarships. In Miami Kai has studied with some of the nations top bassists and music teachers, such as Matt Bonelli, Vincent Bredice, Bill Pace, Don Coffman, Nicky Orta, Vince Maggio, Rob Lussier, Gary Keller, and Ron Miller.
Kai's extraordinary versatility with musical styles has enabled him to perform with many artists in a variety of genres. His profound knowledge of the evolution and performance of Jazz, Pop, and Latin American styles make him a much in demand musician. In addition he has the ability to switch effortlesly between the electric bass and the double bass. In the jazz idiom, Kai has performed with artists such as Dave Valentin, Ira Sullivan, Richie Cole, Bill Prince, Nicole Yarling, Wendy Pedersen, Nicole Henry, Jim Snidero, Phillip Strange, Nestor Torres, Federico Britos, Les DeMerle, Dennis Noday. In the Pop and Latin genre, Kai has recorded and performed with a long list of artists that includes Engelbert Humperdinck, Liel Kolet (Israeli Singer), Laurence Elder, Francisco Cespedes, Lulo Perez, Alvaro Torres, Donato Poveda, Willy Chirino, Rey Ruiz, Willie Gonzalez, Kevin Ceballos, Los Bacilos, Johnny Ventura, Yolanda Rayo, Los Trio, and Enrique Chia. He has also done work for T.V. shows, jingles, and musicals.
Kai is working towards furthering his career as a recording and touring musician.
