Kallioinia is Simon and Matti Kallioinen. Since 2002 the two brothers have worked together, to make beautiful and crazy fantasy music that rocks!
Simon is a one of a kind keyboard wizard. He excells in outrageous synthetic metal solos, Herbie Hancock style vocoder wailings and free form avantgarde whistling (among other things)!
Matti is the lead vocalist, his head is constantly haunted by melodies and musically induced imagery. His stage appearance resembles that of a disturbed, sympathy-demanding child star.
Background:
In 2002, swedish perfromance artist Matti Kallioinen, released the CD "Koncentrerad Saft" on the AbnormalAUDIO label.
The Abnormal label did not live on, but Matti kept on making music, sometimes performing it live with Kallioinia. The band included his brother Simon and sister Julia, and featured the family playing modified electronic toys, synthesizers, and various acoustic instruments. Each show contained lots of specially written material, slapstick and dance numbers, to achieve a "vaudeville" effect.
Over the years, their stage appearance has changed a lot, from a trashy fairytale punk style with cardboard helmets and homemade "weapons", to a dark and fluoroscent dreamworld, with flowershaped face makeup, and neon coloured leotards (that also covers the head, giving a spooky depersonalized impression).
By this time, Julia had left the band and moved to holland to pursue a career in brain science. Simon and Matti was starting to play as a duo.
In 2006 the Stockholm based label Flora & Fauna agreed to release a new CD of their music, the self titled "Kallioinia" (released in november 2006).
The first Chip'n'Damned Records compilation is out now!!!
