About musicians:
ROB REICH, PIANO. A great, well rounded, serious musician who can bang it out old-boogie style, with great rhythm and melodies, almost independently beautiful and rocking, but together. Rob's other bands include: The Trifles, Gaucho, Mysterioso, Lord Loves a Working Man, Sean Hayes, and The Golden Melody Band.
SAFA SHOKRAI, BASS. If you all have never heard Safa, you are in for a treat. A man whose steady, solid as a rock, rocking rhythm makes the beautiful upright bass stand out more musically as it's own voice. He has a wonderful improvisational melodic rhythm that seems to be so instinctual, a part of him, that never strays from that rooted steady beating rhythm. GD!!! Safa's other bands include The Drift, Iron and the Albatross, Tin Cup Serenade, Downtown Uproar.
LECH WIERZYNSKI, TRUMPET, GUITAR. Lech has a sweet, Otis Reddingy, dream transporting voice when he sings. He evokes that soul, with great melodies on the trumpet. Louis Armstrong style, I dare say, with a great sense of rhythm. On guitar, Lech reminds me of Sister Rosetta Tharpe with that same upbeat, bluesy rhythm and melody. Lech's other bands are The Soul Burners and Maria Muldaur.
PETE DEVINE, DRUMS, WASHBOARD, JUG, PERCUSSION, CHEEK-O-PHONE. Petie is my favorite drummer, not just because he plays with me. Colorful, tight rhythm that expresses the old feeling of old music; from a talented true character, a diamond in the ruff. Petie's other bands include Devine's Jug Band, Gaucho, The Brown Bums and Seth Augustus.

Sounds Like
Memphis Minnie, Bessie Smith, Billie Holliday, Julia Lee, Georgia White, Big Bill Broonzy
". . . the sounds coming out of her are eerily pure 1910s, '20s, and '30s jazz and blues, often the dirty kind. Memphis Minnie, Bessie Smith and their peers seem to sing through this tiny, unpretentious woman's throat. Do you believe in reincarnation?" --Hiya Swanhuyser, San Francisco Weekly, 8/23-29, 2006
Born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, exposed to old blues and jazz in the mountains of North Carolina, and dropped here in the San Francisco Bay Area via New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina, Kally Price and her band have performed in the Bay Area for 3 years, keeping alive both popular and obscure blues and jazz songs from the 1930s and '40s.
"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
