Con voces fuertes, melodías pegajosas y ritmos poderosos, Kalua crea un sonido joven, enérgico y fresco. La mezcla de la cultura Colombiana, Venezolana y Mexicana dentro de la banda, da origen a varios sonidos que fusionan una variedad de estilos como el Rock, Reggae, Latino, Mariachi y Afro-caribeño.
En corto tiempo la calidad de Kalua y sus presentaciones llenas de energía, han creado una muy buena imagen de la banda en la escena latina de Austin; dándoles la oportunidad de presentarse en algunos de los mejores lugares y eventos de Austin, como el Austin Vida Latín Fest., Rock de Mayo, Gran Fiesta Austin y muchos otros festivales musicales incluyendo la participación en el primer ALMA (Austin Latino Music Association) Pachanga Music Fest 2008 que presentaba a las mejores bandas de rock latino de la región. Debido a su talento, ALMA invito a Kalua a ser el acto principal del Santanarama 2008, un tributo a Carlos Santana que se celebra cada año para el cumpleaños del virtuoso guitarrista.
Kalua también fue escogido como el Ganador del Concurso “Tu Ciudad, Tu Música” en Houston, un concurso a nivel nacional patrocinado por Burger King. En el concurso la banda fue juzgada por un panel de músicos profesionales, la banda boricua “Circo” (Sony/BMG) fue la escogida.

Kalua ha compartido escenario con algunas bandas nacionales e internacionales tales como: Nortec Collective, Vallejo, Grupo Fantasma, Maneja Beto, Girl in a Coma, Charanga Cakewalk entre otros.
Proven to be "one of the hardest working Spanish rock bands in austin", Kalua's debut album "La Novedad" offers listeners a new perspective in contemporary Spanish rock music. Songs like "Volvere" have been appealing to fans because of its rock-reggae fusion and lyrics. "El Camino" has also gained critical acclaim for its genuinely executed blend of blues and cuban-son. Another track that has had mass appeal is Kalua's arrangement of the classic mariachi song from the 60's, "La Malaguena" which includes not only distorted guitars, wailing solos but also genuine mariachi vocals and traditional mexican instruments like the jarana. In a politically charged time, when many people are worried about their future, "Presidente" is a song of hope that many can relate to. "Presidente" features traditional afro-cuban rhythms, a muted trumpet plus the simplicity of an acoustic guitar and voice. Kalua's self-produced, "La Novedad" is expected to reach fans worldwide through digital distribution as well as independent physical distribution. The group is also planning their tour, "Un Viaje 2009", which will take Kalua's live show through various cities in the US as well as Mexico.
In a short period of time Kalua’s high energy performances have made a great impression in the music scene; giving them the opportunity to play at some of Austin’s best venues and events such as Austin Vida Latin Fest, Rock de Mayo, Gran Fiesta Austin, and many other Musical showcases including an appearance at the ALMA (Austin Latino Music Association) Pachanga Fest 2008 which featured the region's best latin rock groups. Moved by their talent, ALMA invited Kalua to perform as the headlining act in "Santanarama", a Santana tribute concert. Kalua has also reached fans among college campuses like the University of Texas and St. Edward's University by performing in many of their events.
During the 5 de Mayo celebration of 2008, Kalua was chosen to compete as one of five nationwide finalists at the Burger King “Tu Ciudad, Tu Musica” Annual Music Contest held in Houston, TX. In the competition, the band was judged by a professional panel (Sony/BMG) and by crowd response, and they announced winners of the competition.
