« KALUUN » ne veut rien dire. Et pourtant, depuis longtemps un groupe ne nous avait pas autant parlé. A l'écoute de leurs deux albums, on se laisse séduire par un univers bien défini, empreint d'influences anglo-saxonnes et de voyages autour du monde. Une bouffée d'intensité. De leur studio à Paris, les quatre membres du groupe ont su créer l'univers dans lequel ils composent leurs titres et façonnent leur son, en repoussant plus loin leurs limites en matière d'arrangement et de production. Sur disque en tout cas, car en live le groupe se focalise sur l'énergie et l'efficacité. Fiers de leurs références dominantes -Radiohead, Portishead, Zero7, Phoenix ou encore Syd Matters et Blonde Redhead - le groupe établit le "trip-rock", un genre où se mélangent une rythmique trip-hop et la fibre d'un rock aux accents anglo-américains, et pourtant si français… Début 2007, avec Etikal Lab et Time Factory, Kaluun créent le Collectif Mezzanine, qui vise à promouvoir la scène trip hop française.

Okay, so "KALUUN" doesn't actually mean anything - but who said a band's name had to, when the quality of the music speaks for itself? Each sharp, scorching track is woven through with a surprising tapestry of rhythms and sounds often inspired by revisited movie themes or samples from actors' striking lines. The four Parisians have created a "trip rock" music of their own, composing with a very emotional sense of orchestration they learned from classical composers or modern bands such as Blonde Redhead, Phoenix or Radiohead. The singer, whose intense voice expresses her personal feelings with a blunt and realistic style, makes us think of Suzanne Vega if she was playing in a rock band. The self-made band really comes into their own onstage, flaunting their wicked talents in some truly intense gigs. Et voilà !!
