John Trudell meets Robbie Robertson meets Litefoot
Kaluyuti (pron. gal-lou-hugh-n-dee) means "clouds passing over" in his Native Onyo'ta a:ka language. He's been writing poetry all his life. While working in strip bars in the late 80's it was suggested he publish it which resulted in small book of poems by an independent local publishing company "Demon-Eye Publishing" In the late 90s he started hosting Smoke Signals Aboriginal Radio Programming on CHRW 94.9 FM Radio Western (radio station based on the campus of the University Of Western Ontario) in London ON as a fill-in as needed. This gig turned into a regular show the 2nd Sunday of every month as an hour and half of presenting the "best of.." or "latest" releases from Native American musicians. 2004 brought his own independent release "The Peaceful Warrior" which was basically a home-made project to promote anti-racism, social-political commentary and cautionary tales to youth (most specifically Aboriginal youth). As of late, Kaluyuti is back to writing in preparation for a possible second musical release. The Peaceful Warrior was influenced by artists like John Trudell, Litefoot, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Robbie Robertson, Red Power Sqaud and Kinnie Starr. It is difficult to catagorize but if it must be, it most like "spoken word - hip hop" with some rock and goth flavour on some tracks.
