About me:
Kamalayan Kollective is a political, people-centered, feminist organization that seeks to raise critical consciousness. We are a group of UCSD students and community members that aim to provide a progressive space for Pinays and allies. We understand the personal as inherently political, and the political as deeply personal. Thus, we seek to empower and create change through acts of resistance and acts of love, love understood through the self and through the community.
As Kamalayan Kollective, we strive to:
Take action & create change for genuine peace, justice and liberation
Raise awareness about issues that affect the Pinay/Pinoy, Pilipina/o, Pilipina/o
American communities and other marginalized and underserved communities
Cultivate radical personal and societal transformation
Learn about, support and engage in: liberation movements, art & activism, coalition-building, and grassroots organizing
Facilitate dialogues and educational discussions on gender and sexuality, exploitation of women and bodies, identity, imperialism, militarism,
transnationalism, feminism, immigration, workers’ rights, violence and global structures, education, youth, and much more
Serve the people! Empower communities!
Who I'd like to meet:
self-reflective people, feminists and women of color, allies, educators, indigenous/tribal peoples, queer-identified people, laborers, refugees, the youth, social change agents, poets, writers, artists, those who strive to build community, those who came before us, those who work for peace and justice, and of course...YOU!

Giants to Celebrate Filipino Heritage Night on April 21 Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao to throw out ceremonial first pitch
The San Francisco Giants will hold their annual Filipino American Heritage celebration to highlight the Filipino culture and community on Tuesday, April 21, when the Giants face the San Diego Padres at 7:15 p.m. Five division boxing world champion, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

> I.C.E.
(Immigration and Customs Enforcement) is the federal agency created
to operate away from the US/Mexico border, and took the role of detention
of undocumented people over from the from the US Border Patrol in 2003.
This agency is responsible for the waves of immigration raids occurring
with increasing frequency and intensity over the last five years.
These raids occur at workplaces, communities and most recently at public
institutions such as schools and universities. I.C.E. agents conduct these
raids dressed as civilians, they drive unmarked vehicles, are heavily
armed and usually identify themselves only as “police.”
>
> Last Thursday (05/15/2008), I.C.E. raided a bakery in Pacific Beach, and
> detained at least 18 workers.
Two human rights observers documenting the activities of I.C.E.
during this raid were threatened with arrest,
aggressively questioned, and one particularly hostile I.C.E. agent took
their video camera away from them.
These two human rights workers are UCSD
affiliates; one is a current student and the other a recent graduate from
UCSD.
>
> A bakery employee who was not detained, although questioned and released,
is also a current UCSD student.
Soon after the raid in Pacific Beach, I.C.E. agents reappeared at the apartment
of this student on the UCSD campus and subjected him to extensive interrogation
and a search of his living space.
After finding nothing, they left the UCSD campus, apparently
with the logistical support of campus police and UCSD administration.
