Kandiman was the first Jamaican artist
to be backed up by the QG Band one of the top Band in brazil.
In a career stretching back to the mid-seventies, Kandiman has voiced material for many of Jamaica’s leading producers including Coxsone Dodd, Augustus Pablo, Jack Ruby, and King Tubby. In the 1990s having re-styled his singing to the wailing tones of Bob Marley, he shot to prominence in the Jamaican dance-hall, cutting superb specials for most of the leading sound-systems. Stone Love in particular, played a major role in bringing Candyman (now known as Kandiman) back to public attention.
Born, Byron Antonio Reid (13.11.1957) hails from Rock Spring, Hanover, Jamaica. His earliest recollections of singing include school concerts and rallies at his grandmother’s church. Upon leaving school, he fronted a series of bands based in Savannah-La-Mar. In 1978 He travelled to Montego Bay and played the hotel circuit and opened the stage for many international acts such as Billy Paul, the O'Jays, Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Brown and Sugar Minott.
In the early 1990s Kandiman disenchanted with covering other peoples songs began song writing and experimenting with various musical styles. Kandiman then settled on the Bob Marley sound as he found he could sing this quite naturally and soon gained notoriety in the Jamaican dancehall, voicing countless specials in the Marley style.
In 2006 Kandiman toured with the original wailers band. Kandiman has also undertaken some collaboration on his new album titled Kronic. Never Get Weary featuring Turbulance, and Dem No Know Jah featuring Luciano. His current single Dutty Vaggaban is produced jointly by Eric Wiess and Byron Reid aka, Lion Dub and Kandiman.
Kandiman continues to sing conscious reggae music, building up a musical catalogue for music lovers today and tomorrow.
