Ivor Cutler, Vincent Gallo, Laurie Anderson, Bjork, Eno, anything acoustic from Senegal, basically anything where things plunk or go ping. And Talking Heads, John Coltrane, T. Amos, N. Drake, Mouse on Mars, the Incredible String Band, my mates Lewis and Alf, Bach, Ravel, everything by the troubadours, Django, Arvo and French Chanson. And now, a song:
"I am the Mirrorboy.
I am quite difficult to draw.
When I look in the mirror, all I see
is a tunnel where the face should be.
There's a girl at work I really like.
She doesn't talk to me much but we work together.
We're spies. She's not shy. She tends to look over my shoulder a lot.
I am Mirrorboy, I take everything on board.
I'm beginning to see things out of focus.
I tend to overreact to posters in the street.
I'm useful in spy-work because my face
deflects lasers.
There are 2 kinds of laser.
Lasers used in security systems.
And lasers from laser guns, which are expensive. Very expensive.
But sometimes we go spying on other planets.
I have a friend, Magnetboy.
He's useful if the enemy use bullets or arrows.
He tends to be more popular than me.
He and she can talk for hours..." Thank you.

About me: Hello. Make yourself at home. I'm one of a number of people on the internet called Simon Kane. I write and I act (my showreel's up there in Videos) and I make things and I show them. They include, in descending order of guessed audience share: Sketches penned for That Mitchell and Webb Sound and Laurence and Gus: Hearts and Minds featuring Primo Levi, the Mekon, Hello Kitty, Zombie Poppins, a baby seal called Asbo (MENTIONED by Jonathan Ross) and these, for That Mitchell And Webb Look...
Then there's my work as an associate artist with the theatrical collective Shunt.., coming-up-with-stuff for and running-about-while-costumed in the theatrical landmarks "Dance Bear Dance", "Amato Saltone", "Tropicana" and "The Tennis Show":
Then the award-winning, politically sensitive collaborations as an actor with politically insensitive Kuwaiti literary giant Sulayman Al-Bassam (we did the national premiere of "Hamlet" on the Kuwaiti/Iraqi border, we got medals etc.)...
Then "Princess Plimsole", "Iago's Little Book of Calm" and "Jonah Non Grata" are all pieces of mine that have somehow appeared onstage, excellently with excellent people, and might do so again. There's also a very old film of "The Tempest" I made featuring some future Shunt talent alongside scattered comedy pros like Rufus Jones, Gus Brown, Susy (also a) Kane and David Mitchell - which didn't. And then the stories (chiefly children's stories for grown-ups... Do contact me if you'd like a read). And I draw. Next up: Itinerant spots singing (though not the stuff you're hearing), compering, crashing industry events as a "professional parasite", confusing people for periods of time short enough to fall within the remit of stand-up, uncommissioned adventures in radio, hanging round the Shunt Lounge looking out of place...
And the blog. Thank you for coming. We'll see. Be well.
Blithe views concerning the pimp trade are that of pimp-my-profile, and not the artist's.
