The Kicks Band is a classic rock and alternative musical entertainment group. With John Andrews and Jake Rahija along with Don Otting and Dick Murdock, The Kicks blends tight instrumentation and vocals.
With a musical repertoire that spans five decades [70’s - 00’s] The Kicks appeals to a wide range of ages.
Over thirty years of professional musical experience and stage performance allows The Kicks to provide a show that both sounds and looks fantastic. Please read further for individual band member bios.
Don Otting has been the lead singer, and front man for Frisk, Vaudeville Circuit and Kansas City’s very own Ossian, for whom he was an original member and song writer. With a unique and distinguished voice, Don does most of the lead singing for The Kicks. But that’s not all. Don is an extremely accomplished drummer as well. He has entertained with his musical abilities all over the Midwest.
On rhythm guitar and vocals is Dick Murdock. Along with Don he is an original member of Ossian and Vaudville Circuit. His guitar synthesizer allows The Kicks to cover many musical styles and sounds including, standard synth, trumpet, piano, Hammond B3 organ, harmonica and much more. Because Dick and Don have played together for over 30 years, they have a unique blend of harmonies that only time and experience can produce.
John Andrews has the musical range and diverse guitar sound that is seldom found in contemporary guitar players today. His styles range from blues to rock and he plays them all with a sound that leaves audiences rocking. John has played in The Kick Band And Triaxe. His background vocals allow The Kicks to cover many difficult vocal genres.
On bass guitar, Jake Rahija anchors the bottom end along with background vocals and running lights. Jake has been around the Kansas City music scene for over 30 years, playing lead guitar with the band Filmore in the 70's and 80's. His styles range from classic rock to modern funk and he does a sensational job on everything in between.
