Kaori Yamada is a jazz drummer. Born in Takamatsu, Kagawa Pref., Japan, Kaori started to learn the piano at the age of 4 and she graduated from the School of Music, at Takamatsu Junior College, majoring in classical piano.
Kaori began to play drums on her own initiative at the age of 14. She was particularly interested in Soul, R&B, and Jazz, music her brother was listening to at the time, and she developed a strong ambition to become a professional drummer.
From 1991 to 1995, Kaori was based in Hiroshima where she qualified as a drum instructor under the R.C.C. Takeshi Inomata Drum School at YAMAHA Music Shops, Chugoku Region. During this period, she contributed to the local community as a volunteer musician participating in charity concerts and events for a local youth group and welfare facility. In 1994 Kaori was awarded the Best Ensemble Award at the YAMAHA Music Festival.
Kaori was introduced to Japan's best-known drummer, the late Motohiko Hino, in 1996. She started training in Tokyo under his supervision and in 1998 her professional drumming career began. Since that time Kaori has given many live performances nationwide leading her own bands "Wet" and later on, "Petit Agasa". Kaori has also worked as a side man for many of her fellow musicians. She has performed with many famous Japanese musicians including Terumasa Hino (tp), Fumio Karashima (pf), Kosuke Mine (ts), Yosuke Inoue (b), etc.
In 2007 she plans to move to New York to broaden her music horizon.

"DJ Monkey …soul-stirring, excitingly edgy music…just disturbing (read ‘mind-f**king’) enough to demand attention. There is a whole spice rack of auditory flavors here, served up like fractured poetry on a collection of intensely listenable Hallmark cards from Hell." Bill Margold, Cinema Seen, L.A. X..Press
