Years ago my voice teacher made me pick a voice to model mine after from a gallery of photos on his wall. I chose Ella Fitzgerald.....and listened to countless hours of Ella and Doris Day trying to imitate the clarity of their vocals. If their is any purity in my voice it is Ella's doing.
While at the library, I happened upon the Cox family and Alison Krauss's grammy winning gospel cd and fell in love with both Alison and Suzanne Cox. Not long after that my sister left her copy of Dolly Parton's greatest hits in my car...... I wore it out and still haven't returned it....;))
Friends I met at jams introduced me to Eva Cassidy and Gillian Welch---and I couldn't escape the influence of Emmylou Harris.....all the songs I love she has covered......
Mountain Heart, Jim Van Cleve, Union Station, Carrie Hassler and Hard Rain, Randy Travis, and Doyle Lawson have made cds that I have all but ingested... fiddler Jim Van Cleve's solo project No Apologies played on every car trip for a solid year....:))
Ricky Skaggs, Tony Rice, the Stanley Bros and my sister Kristi Starr round it out but I could go on and on....

Always great to hear from you, even by accident. Just got back from two months in NY in time for the holidays...we've got a lakehouse up there, so besides doing some work on the place, I was able to get alot of writing in. Love all the new pics, and new videos...I see you've got some of your own songs up...I'll enjoy listening to all the new stuff over the holiday break and catching up...the best to you and your family, Jess
Greetings from down-under. I enjoy watching your originals and covers, you and your family seem to be specially gifted in the music department. Might have to get you to send me some of that water you have over there.
